no your right, its not cool, dont feel good about it one little bit;
but what else should I do? get almost nothing back for a car ive driven up to now?

I suppose I have no choice then sad as it may be;

Wise man say: If it doesn't feel good - don't do it!

All cars are bought as a tool to take one from Point A to Point B - in order to do that in some sort of comfort - there are other alternatives, such as taxis and trains, and they all cost money - why should one buy a car, then if one is expecting to have this luxury without spending any money?

NOBODY, as I have said before, buys a car and expects to break even on expenses when they sell it - if that was the case, we would have a utopia, where second hand cars didn't exist, as everyone would be forced to buy a new car as there would be no price difference between new and used, and ergo, no market.

Back in 1968 when I bought my first car for R 350, I was able to fix it up and sell it for R 750 - but then we did live in a motoring Utopia back then... :)
 
Cars are a drain on one's wallet. I make sure I buy cheep cheep and dump it when its finished.
Never can understand how some people can splurge over R500k on a vehicle..

What are you...19 years old? Thats what owning a vehicle is like - they depreciate.

A Kia Picanto isn't some vintage hotrod investment car. lol

In all honesty, if the problem has been resolved, then surely OP is not selling a problem car? The dealership that buys it will still sell it most probably with little to no work being done no it. Most of the cars I've bought have had an average of 5-10k worth of repairs if bought either from a dealer or privately (it's a used car, I don't expect it to be brand new!)

Personally, I wouldn't sell a car without problems... OP, drive it for a few weeks/months to make sure the issue is resolved and then sell if you feel you want to upgrade. Don't try rip someone off.

You have to remember that the Dealer is supposed to sell the car with some sort of guarantee/warranty attached.
Evaluators can sniff out problems a mile away - it's what they do, all day, every day - it is highly unlikely that a dealership would see this as a "little to no work" investment.

And that is why those older cars fetch better prices than older cars riddled with electronics.

I sold a chico just last week for 35k and a citi 1.4i for 48k.

2 old fleet cars that we replaced.

Tbh changed cv joint today, and nicely routed clutch cable so its not so hard anymore,

Gonna drive it a few weeks now and see how it behaves, but gonna sell it and take it on the chin what i get, whatever i get....

This is my price for buying a uncommon car with low resale value,
Should have brought a Tazz, as that car hold value quite well, and no blasted ecu to break.....

Hopefully get something that reliable and easy to sell on, like a corsa lite or citi golf or tazz

Don't go and sell it if it's working just to get a Tazz or Citi that may have been hammered and will probably get stolen
 
From experience I can safely say a Tazz won't last long in JHB. Unless you're doing very short trips.
Sure their bodies stay straight, and the engine just keeps ticking.
But fuel consumption is terrible. And no matter who you are, you're going to have to hammer it just to keep up in traffic.

That said there is the 160i Tazz of course. If you can find one. At a reasonable price.
But it has that evil "ECU" you speak of.

passed my DL on a tazz, fantastic little car,
true about the fuel consumption, they drink fuel as they old tech, and yes they a hijack/stolen risk;

I mean we had a sentra and that got forcibly redistributed; and there was the citi golf; also big risk car;
seems I either should try chinese, or I should go korean for my next car;

anybody here drive chinese like a GWN c10? looks very funky with that grill.... but how they hold up?

I always thought of these chinese cars, like the old corrolas that still alive after 30 years on the road;
simply unknown how they fare, but as they copied from more mainstream cars, should be good;

You started this thread because you got offered a 'joke value' for a trade-in on your Kia, and you're seriously asking if you should go Chinese? Please promise you'll not start yet another thread bitching about it if you do decide to do that. We're getting tired of offering advice that gets ignored.
 
Buying a Chinese car is like buying a cheap cheap budgie built Chinese product.
It is not made to last... at all
