Kaspersky at Incredible Con.

I see Incredible Connection is finally stocking Kaspersky Antivirus and Kaspersky Internet Security. Prices are quite competitive ...

BUT why are they selling the 2006 version??

They also admit getting money to stock the product on the shelf, which sits next to Norton.

I'm currently trialing ZoneAlarm, which is giving good results. It also uses the Kaspersky virus engine, but also seems to be a version behind.
 
Well I checked into Incredible this evening and waas left undecided as to the choice between Bitdefender and Kaspersky.

Which one would u recommend & leave the price out.
 
I would go for the Internet Security Package.

Why not try one out. Zone Alarm has a 15 day trial of their Suite. Kaspersky has too.

I just don't feel like buying version 6 and immediately waiting to download the upgrade. Rather have V7 on disk and no mucking around. All the latest reviews liked it too.
 
Somebody explain something to me:

Why buy an AV when one can get a free one that uses the same defs&engine? Where is the extra value? For corporate customers that need to do 250 PCs yes, but for single users... I must be missing something.

U got a point there Conspirator, I use Avast Home Edition and happy with it. I s'pose there is a belief that paid for AVs offer better protection as well as there being a complete package of a firewall and antispyware - a sort of all-in-one.

I use Avast with Zonealarm firewall on Vista, after my upgrade I jus felt like a change

You should be able to download Kaspersky V7 (KAV or KIS) and use the key provided when bought at Incredible Con.

I never said it had all the feature as the paid one. AFAIK AVG uses the same engine for both. The free definitions incl only virus, while paid includes spyware etc too. Download speeds also differ and the license is for non-commercial use only. Other difference I noticed so far is that the free version can't do a commandline update from defs stored on PC/local network, only from internet.

Maybe they slowed the free engine down and forgot to mention "faster scanning" as a benefit of upgrading. I don't have the source code...

i use kaspersky and i am thrilled to bits with it. picks up all sorts of nasties
 
I see Incredible Con have now relented and are stocking Version 7 (great).

I visited an internet cafe with free AVG last week (NetSpot in Sea Point ). I got 2 nice Trojans to put in my trophy cabinet. It was picked up by my U3 flashdrive using Avast. AVG never knew a thing and it was on at least 3 workstations.

AOL's "VirusScan" used Kaspersky's defs and engines and was completely free. I used that for a year...they now switched to Mcafee ..so it's still same front-end, but use Mcafee's defs/engine ...again it's free.

There's most probably a few more like this, just have to look ;)

It's still imho a good app, as it's not as bloated as the official offerings.
 
If u bank at ABSA, u can get PC-cillen Internet Security 2007 for free.

Norton completely takes over your PC, I really don't like it.

Or if u have a mac, u don't need AV.

AOL's VirusScan did NOT have all the features of KAV

Active Virus Shield does lack some features of Kaspersky 6.0 (such as proactive protection and HTTP protection)

How do you get trojans? What sites do you visit? The sites I tend to visit never have trojans. If I really want trojans I have to go on astalavista
and do a search for a keygen and those sites plus the keygen usually turns
out to be a trojan. Do you also download .exe's from Bittorent sites?

I've used McAfee Enterprise and no viruses. I disabled that and installed ESET Trial and scanned and no viruses. I later installed the Kaspersky
trial updated and scanned, no viruses. :) It all depends what you download I guess. I guess virus writers don't target obscure visual novels
and fansubs :).
