That does look good, apart from frying in vegetable shortening, which is very unhealthy.

I would love to try that, the problem of course is what to do with the oil afterwards? I suppose pan frying might work for this though. Last time I tried to pan fry chicken, I burned the coating a little. Probably need a gentler heat over a longer period of time.

you must boil the chicken first, then coat it, then fry it
 
If you have a pressure cooker and are not afraid of deep-frying in it, you can get damn close. Pity that none of these "KFC-Style" recipes feature the use of a pressure cooker, which is what KFC uses.
