Kissing on first date?

sigh it is sad that I know the guy's name... never letting a gf take me to sparkling vampire movies again :/

So there’s this girl who lives literally a few houses down from me. I’ve been into her for quite a while and on past occasions she was always in a relationship (one of those girls that holds a boyfriend for a long time) so I was unable to make my move. But I’m patient. About a week ago I saw on her Facebook page that she’d just broken up with her current BF. I wasted no time in getting chatting to her through FB and asked her out for coffee.

Other than seeing her occasionally when I got a lift from college with her mom, I’ve never really had any significant contact with her before now. We met Sunday evening and it went really well – better than I would’ve expected. We talked about the usual random ****. School, uni, jobs, movies, weekend activities blah blah. I’m a pretty shy guy and usually find myself with awkward silences during theses things, but I’d popped a few anti-anxiety pills before I left and after a few minutes I was totally chilled and we ‘clicked’ pretty well.

I got a lift home with her in her car and told her I really enjoyed it and we should get together and go clubbing or something next weekend or something, and she said yeah we should. We said goodbye and I think I made it pretty obvious how I felt, and don’t think I’m wrong in thinking it was mutual. This friend of mine told me I should’ve kissed her.

I’m pretty incompetent at 'reading' these situations, but is it the norm for two people relatively new to each other to kiss on a first date? Everyone I've asked says I should've. I won’t say I wouldn’t have liked too, and I thought about it, but then I didn't want to get slapped either :p

It seems like one of those things that go without saying, and I feel like a total ****er for not doing it. What is you guys' take on this?

/facepalm

WAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA this is the funniest! EVER!... dude, keep us posted. and remember PICS!!!! OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN!!!

Wow, there are some seriously mean spirited replies on here. I guess none of you stone cold ****ing studs ever had the yips about kissing a girl you were into. ;)

@Skitter: Ignore these okes; very few of us are Gods gift to woman. Most of us experience a bit or a lot of anxiety when it comes to dealing with woman we are attracted to.

Not kissing on the first date - not serious at all. She may have wanted to, but she probably didn't expect you to, and more than likely wont hold it against you.

On the second date - do it bud. If you don't she may start thinking you're trying to be her friend or something. Don't forget this girl is on the market as it were and if she's a hotty she has other guys who are interested. Just bare in mind that you run the risk of being rejected - she may actually just want to be friends. This is another issue all together - do not take this personally.

thats what you should have asked her...

Totally took the wind out of my sails! I'm now in the post doldrums here, thankyaverymuch. I was singing it in my head all the way through the thread as I was planning on making a snappy reference to this lyrical masterpiece and then *bam* sorry, idea taken. Next! :p

Ok then. STRAWBERRREH LIPS SAYIN' - BABY, I WANT YOU!
Dude, OP, don't stress. Next time round, when the time is right, turn the lights down low and imagine she's got that number running through her purdy li'l head and before you know it you'll be...what's that? You don't know that tune? Before your time, 'ey? Ooookay. Well this thread sure brought back that youthful feeling. Got some old-people stuff to take care of anyway so...

Bugger the first kiss. What will you do when its legover time? Its very unromantic and uncomfortable when hooked up to a ventilator and a drip :D

Cheers for the advice (well, some of you). Gonna give it a go for the weekend

Yea, man. Good luck! Don't wait too long or next thing you'll be friends, things will get complicated and you will forever wonder what could have been. Pics on next post or we'll know it didn't happen! :p

She's probably waiting for you to shag her... so forget the first kiss, go big!!!

The normal thing I suppose is to get your freak on around the second or third date. I can't comment as I normaly go for one night stands that end up being long term :o. I pushed the envelope as far as possible on the first date as I might not see the woman again and everytime I got lucky it ended up being long term .....

she asked me to kiss her in a nice place !!!!

and i said there is NO way i'm driving to Loftus !!!!

I take if wifey doesn't read these forums because you'd probably have some explaining to do for speaking in the present tense in that reply. :p
