do you work for the NCC or something?

No, I'm a consumer activist who's tired of all the moaning and groaning from consumers. I want to empower consumers so they can be aware there are steps they can take beyond moaning. The CPA is a powerful tool and it's every consumer's duty to know the basic rights provided by the CPA.

you should probably start by learning the contents of the CPA yourself

Consumer rights have been prepared similiar way to Human Rights. My dogs have a right for self defense and if they bite an intruder, I will not punish them. But Human Rights do not have such clause. It is a basic right in the animal world given them by God, but the same is not available to humans, no wonder - Human Rights have been prepared by humans.

In SA Common Law one can be acquitted on grounds of self defense.

Well you can start with the distinction between airtime vouchers and loaded airtime

No distinction, both are the same, like paying with cash, credit card or gift voucher. No matter what your method of payment is, the goods/service is yours to keep and the supplier has no right to claim it back (if paid in full).

If you first buy a gift voucher and then exchange it for an item, the item is yours. Same with airtime, if you buy airtime first and exchange for data bundle, it's yours and the supplier can't claim unused data bundle back. Same applies if you buy data bundle with voucher. Very simple.

Nope airtime once articulated from a voucher can not be retranslated as it is not money
Go brush up

Can you give me the reference to that regulation in the CPA so I can go brush up?

The only route for someone who don't have internet banking, is to buy airtime and to exchange it for data bundle. Vodacom don't sell data bundle vouchers (as far as I'm aware of). The consumer shouldn't be disadvantaged due to a lack of suitable payment methods from the supplier.

If you wan't to argue the criteria is "real" money, then take the example of buying data bundle via online banking. That also expire after 30 days. So it's not the payment method that matters. The expiry of data bundles after 30 days, whether paid by cash, online, voucher or whatever method, is just plain and simple UNFAIR, UNJUST & UNREASONABLE and is in violation of CPA.

Even though you may argue airtime is not money, it has a value and can be used for trading. If I owe someone money, we can agree that I settle my debt by transferring airtime to the value of the debt to him. This proves airtime can be used in the same way as cash as a value can be attached to it.

Does your money have an expiry date?
