*sigh* One thing Linux have not got right all these years, ease of setting thing up on first install!.

I went to install drivers for the specific Nvidia card in adept. during installation the system rebooted - now its stuck in a bootloop.

*sigh*

Are you new to Linux or do you know your way around?

I have no idea of how *buntu handles restore procedures, maybe give Linoman a pm since he seems to know his way around *buntu.

Otherwise:
Fire up a liveCD.
Code:
mkdir /mnt/disk_a
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/disk_a (make sure this is the partition with *bunut system files on it)
cd /mnt/disk_a
chroot /mnt/disk_a /bin/bash
env-update

Now you are inside your *buntu installation from the LiveCD and can install and remove software with adept. Fix the problem and you should be done.

Better idea. When your bootloader (Grub) comes up, select the current kernel's recovery mode... it's easy to spot. Wait for everything to come up, then select "fix X-server". It should work. If it doesn't, come back to me and I will give you alternate code that should work... assuming you have a root password...

thanks for the advise guys, I already fixed it, i installed Vista ;) - much better

Giving up so quickly? :(

Why didn't you wait a couple of months and install Windows 7? Apparantly you can get it now, a couple of copies has been leaked (hehehe, got my hands on one) :D

Will however not install it as I'm happy with my Linux install :D

Actually i didnt break it, it broke itself. I've been at it for over a year now, with problem after problem. Honestly - if you guys want to put up with such Shyte - please, be my guest, There's better software than linux, its called Windows! It Rules!.

Cool, whatever works for you. Should you return in future, this fix will be recommended to you up front so that nobody has to waste their time with you ;).

What nvidia card do you have?

8800gt & 9800gt both on my p5e Asus with quad core 8gig ram.

then i Tried it on a older machine - same shyte. always graphics...
P4 2ghz with pci MX440 64meg & 1gig ram

Then tried it with 2 completely different 3ghz HT p4's both with 2gig ram.
The one has a ATI 9450 graphics card the other a ATI 9600 Graphics card both with 512meg ram. The one a Gigabyte board, the other an Asus board.
same shyte!

I've been at this whole exersize with graphics with Kubuntu over a year now!. the last straw was with Kubuntu 8.1 and half the stupid commands that worked with the previous version doesnt work with the new. - File table is different.

In every case the display won't work better than 800x600
In every case I can't set Dual or tripple monitor.
In every case I either have to re-install or look up a way to uninstall the nvidia or ATI drivers that was recommended by various forums with detailed instructions because they either causes the system to get into a bootloop or end at a command prompt.

I have never EVER managed to install Kubuntu or Ubuntu on a system and just use it - there was always an amount of editing needed to get the system to run the way i wanted to, but to be honest, never ever got there!

over a year... I've learned alot about Linux, and in every single attempt to get ontop of it and, there's always been a snag, it breaks or it freezes or it gets into a damn boot loop...

Tired of this now.

Throw in Vista or in other cases XP and it just WORKS - no mess, no fuss!. Even updating drivers on any of these machines are painless!

You guys can have Linux - Enjoy! ;)

Weird... I have a 9600GT, P5Q Asus with quadcore, everything worked without the need for terminal on 8.10 and yesterday I installed the latest driver from nvidia's site manually.

No probs my side, so you must be doing something wrong.

with all due respects to the linux community who love to badmouth the Microsoft community - i can't be bothered anymore!.

Linux must be treated the way you treat a hobby...or else stay with Windows.

Ubuntu is only difficult without the restricted and proprietary repos, once you enable that then you can use the restricted drivers and open all kinds of content and media without hassle.

I could not have said it better myself! - This is why its a minority Ubber Cool Leet thing! - i'm not 12 anymore - so i'll pass the frustration to enjoy linux to you and the rest of the leet clan - enjoy ;)

Why keep on stirring the pot when you have intention of using Linux any more?

So please go past Start and don't collect R200-00. You are happy with Vista, then leave the Linux section alone, why stir when you could just quietly go your way?

This is a too common incident on SA forums, cause a huge stink and kick dust every where, toys littering the playpen, can't be happy until I emptied all hatred and guile in my own heart onto others, but actually, WHO THE HECK CARES?!!! Move along now, it was fun while it lasted.

Are you trying to say i'm not allowed to talk on this forum? Sounds to me like it!
