The mbr2gpt command in windows 10 converts it to UEFI. There's some prerequisites. It was one of the things I had to do to get Windows 11 installed on my PC on the beta channel a while back.

ubuntu boot fail, and windows 10 no boot

i eventually gave up, and took the one hardrive out and replaced with a new drive and reinstalled windows 10 with gpt and uefi in bios
i will proceed again with ubuntu now
Alo gonna install ubuntu on my old g60 lenovo.
i dont like going into the field with 2 laptops it dont make sense, so i gonna try ubuntu again.
As you can see i got ubuntu installed again with windows 10 dual boot with uefi.Will update as soon as windows load .

Solution for me was a rude awakening.

Another update
;It took 5 reinstallation of ubuntu to finally work as it should with no errors within the OS.I have never come across something like this.Endless problems with dualbooting and mounting errors and grub failures and grub corruption.I know its not the OS but its the hardware that ubuntu was not properly tested on.This laptop is a g50 70 lenovo.The other laptop it installed fine with windows 11 and ubuntu and macOSX on acer and no problems.
I got 2 identical g50-70 laptops which i did the exact thing and both gave the same error with boot and grub and both could not mount usb or external.But after like 5 reinstalls with usb both working fine now. In ubuntu i can now mount the flash and see the windows partition and explore it.
I am sure ubuntu 22 is a great product but to be honest i dont trust its reliability like i do with windows.I am using ubuntu now but i will be switching back to windows soon.

Kudos to you for sticking it out and trying again.
As much as nerds would like to convince everyone that Linux is ready for prime time on a desktop for “normal” people it just isn’t.
If you want that the best version of *nix for desktop is is macOS.

i have come to understand that linux is a command line based system which is ok but there are many problems with outdated repos and addresses for many programs .I had to really search to find the exact stuff that actually worked.I
I got dualboot windows 10 and this ubuntu with macosx catalina running within ubuntu,This was a real pain to get right and i failed many times until i finaly settled on sosumi to easy use.I can run it now at 2gig memory but i am still trying to fix the usb host to connect iphones to.I will leave that to another day cause terminal commans is not working and the host is stealing the usb connection and not switching to guest.

my 2c, get another cheap laptop and dedicate it to linux
I have Fedora 36 installed in an external SSD drive. When I want to run linux on work windows laptop I plugin the external drive and reboot and voila, I have Linux drive infront of me. That is for me the best "dual boot" that I found. My personal laptop is Ubuntu (only) on Macbook air early 2015.

With SSD external drive if any difference in speed it will be too minimal to notice.
What works nicely for me is I first installed (X)ubuntu and then Windows 11 on their own partitions.
I don't have a dual boot menu, but rather have a default booting OS set in Bios. Then if I want to boot the other OS I press esc, then F9 and choose the OS of choice.
I haven't updated Xubuntu yet in 2 months since install, so I hope a grub update will not disturb my peace.
