Kulula: Blacks can't swim

Enith Brigitha? Anthony Nesty? Martiza Correia? Alison Terry? Charles Chapman, Jr.? (OK, he wasn't at the Olympics...but he holds world records for dwimming around Alcatraz and Manhattan).

We all know how "There are no good black golfers" and "There are no good black tennis players" turned out...

Most of the people you list here are in fact white.

No, it's about swimming this time.

People can be trained to swim like they can be trained to perform other functions.

Clearly the excuse from ComAir about the lack of transformation in their company is so utterly weak and so pathetic that I wonder if their management has any brains at all to actually mention this to a majority black govt.

What were they thinking ... dumb a$$es.

It's true black people can't swim!

When we recruited 50 black people to become Navy divers, we first had a test run at the Naval mess swimming pool in Church Street.

Only six of them could swim, but the other 44 still applied for the job!? Oh, and the other six only lasted a week at Simonsberg...lol

They've got an extremely successfull business for people who aren't clever.

Why do they need to teach people to swim?
Surely only people who meet the requirement should apply?

If they're hiring pilots should they take someone with zero hours of flying and spend R5 mill on training them?

So racism is alive and well in South Africa ... golly ain't that surprising ... well a century of ANC governance will fix it :).

Yes it is, its more commonly referred to by euphemisms like Affirmative Action and Black Economic Empowerment. :p:p

Indeed and long may they continue as clearly some people can't be trusted to change things out of their own.

You can train people to fly aircraft too, but it would be more cost effective to employ people already trained.

If you don't have a swimming pool at home or in your community or at your school then how the hell are you going to learn dolt ???.
Use another community's pool - that's the trend anyway. That is if the council is still maintaining them. I don't go anymore because they've become rubbish tips and are never open because of cut backs.

Besides, there is still the sea in most parts of this country. Why can't they practise there!?

Also you haven't addressed the cultural aspect. The Xhosa tribe for instance has no history of using water for anything but drinking and bathing. Was it taboo (?), I don't know, but they certainly didn't venture into water much.

I've actually seen a few black lifeguards before.

Also seen one. One. 1. One. So..

Its ok to discriminate against whites because of their skin colour, but because an employee can't swim and happens to be black, its EVIL!
ffs if you can't do the job then learn to do it, instead of whining about sucking. Kalula has my vote of confidence, well done for not bowing to racist legislation and enforcing employee recruitment standards.

If they want to continue doing business in this country then they will respect the laws of the land ... but our money is so good I guess they will suitably grovel and apologize in newspaper ads and fire a few dolts who made the decision , so don't get your hopes up :).

Have you seen the beaches over public holidays :).

Maybe they are using local businesses as examples of 'respect' for the law.

And when exactly did SAA comply fully with BEE?

I don't think going en-masse into the sea half-clothed can be called 'swimming'. More like washing :p (Bodies & clothes)
>See forthcoming headlines about number of drownings over Christmas.
