LAN Question - Networking 120 People

Hey, I will be setting up a LAN for 120 people this weekend and was wondering what the best way is to network the switches to the server. I have 6x 24 port gigabit unmanaged d-link switches and a dual quadcore xeon server. Should I just daisy chain switch to switch or should I have all the switches plugged into one switch. Im thinking that there will be more network traffic if I daisy chain them eg. Say the 24 people on the last switch want to download a file off the server which is on the first switch, all 24 connections would have to go through each other switch to get to the server which I assume could cause some lag.
 
You would want the switches to know exactly which port the data is destined for, this will prevent one bloke downloading Debian from a different network segment from blocking up the entire network.

For that reason, each set of computers on each switch must be on a different subnet.

Then, all the different subnets are plugged into one switch (if you can), but, the net aim is that each and every port on all the switches only has one destination.
 
nice setup you have there, it should be quite fast IMO...
 
Even cascaded, things may slow down depending on how much data is being copied, you going to have 23 users connected through a single port. Are the switches web managed or un-managed?
