@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

I'm stuck with 4mb so still peachy over here :p although, I also noticed some slow browsing yesterday.

After I got my account working again, I klapped some bandwidth on friday and managed to finish another batch of roll-over before 6pm, and it didn't cap itself - yoohoo :) Now let's see what happens monday morning ;)

You know how frustrating it actually is. You get used to the fast line then now you are back to a slower speed. For me if its permanent it would be a major deal breaker.

I use my connection all the time in the bolt on times and not during the day because I work that time so what is the point of having a faster line then if it limited to 10Mbps. Its still not wise to downgrade back to 10Mbps because 20Mbps is cheaper than 10Mbps don't know how Telkom worked that one out. Pay less for more and pay more for less....

I think I'm just going to cancel the fatpipe and keep the R59 bolt on on my gig4gig and use it when I really need it.

I know how you feel, like back in the day when 4/10mb lines were the same price. Paying for a 10mb line and getting 4mb since 2009.

I was on 4Mbps since 2008/2009 and only this year the exchange got upgraded. It was always just served by a very poor backhaul and it got so badly congested that people could not even browse. So finally June 2014 they just upgraded the backhaul to metro ethernet and now I went from 4Mbps > 20Mbps :) Not getting full 20Mbps because of distance but still cheaper to get like 14Mbps than 10Mbps :)

You lucky fish, at least they digging holes here for ftth :D Hope the price is reasonable :p

my area only has 10mb , so no difference here :p

down the road they have 40mps , maybe one day they will upgrade here .

Ok, it seems our worst assumption is correct. Decided to check out there terms and conditions again and they have sneakily added a new line in:

9. UNCAPPED ADSL BOLT-ON
9.1. One concurrent connection allowed.
9.2. Uncapped ADSL Bolt-on can only be used in conjunction with ADSL GIG4GIG.
9.3. The uncapped service will only be valid during off-peak times.
9.4. The standard uncapped Fair Usage Policy applies that allows for a maximum
line speed of 10 Mbps.

Well, **** you too Vox. Thanks for informing your customers about this change.

I am now cancelling both my accounts with them if this is how they want to do business.

Bye bye Vox.

Now their cancellation form doesn't work either.

Very sneaky. They could have stated it on the main page so customers know when they sign up. I think they saw the 20Mbps and 40Mbps users was chowing up their available IPC bandwidth afterhours and decided to rate limit it. Its understandable because 1x 20Mbps user = less than 2 x 10Mbps users and 1 x 40Mbps line owner can be equal to like 5 x 10Mbps users if you take in to account adsl overheads.

Sneaky to add that line to the Terms because it was not there before I think and just silently rate limit bolt on users. Maybe they should focus on fixing their roll over properly first before quickly "fixing" the uncapped bolt on.

I think they are doing it wrong though. You can get a 4Mbps user doing 700GB or so a month then me doing maybe 300GB usage on a 20Mbps line.

There is no doubt they are doing it wrong. They could have at least just sent out an email to inform their bolton customers in advance.

I'm really pissed now, I hate it when companies just change their service policies on the fly with absolutely no regard for their customers. I would have only cancelled my account+bolton if they had made this change following proper procedure but now I'm cancelling my second fatpipe account too just out of principle. More work for me (now I have to explain to my mother again how to change the details in the router) but I'll rather give me money to someone else.

Very sneaky from Vox if they just added that line recently. I'm limited to 4mbps currently though so it doesn't affect me, but I'd be mighty pissed if I had VDSL.

Still broken this morning. Anyone got any response from Vox regarding throttlegate?
Amazeballs. I love how you guys expect an answer from a company over a weekend :P Pretty certain, the guys making the call on any official answer will only be back in the office on Monday. Sure you can expect support staff ect, after hours, but not the guys that run the business side of things.

True why did they act sneaky and made all those change just before the weekend because it was working @ full speed Thursday night. I fear they will only confirm what we already know tomorrow.

So much change without communication. How hard is it to draft an email to your customers?

They should have rather added a term like "After X amount the line speed gets limited to 10mbit" or something like that, more reasonable imo.

I don't use nearly as much data as most people and was planning on upgrading to 40Mbit, line with Vox. When I want to download something I want it done asap. I don't download the Internet though =/

This is Crappy and I'm going to have to rethink my ISP choice a bit most likely.

Totally agree with you there. Why not make after 150GB or 200GB the speeds get capped @ 10Mbps. That would have been much better. I don't use much data but when I need to download 10GB I want to download it at line speed.

I'm sure its better to have that system because 10Mbps line users can abuse the bolt on too.

I just got a phone call from Vox support. I explained the problem to the guy. He put me on hold and after coming back he explained that the bolt on is shaped after hours. I explained that this has never been the case before thursday the 25th of September where before I used to get full line speeds. He asked for proof, not because he did not believe me but because he needed it to show the senior engineers.
I told him to tell his engineers to come to this thread to see for themselves.
