Laptop's Perfomance?

Ok gents. I've managed to stretch my budget with R1k. How about this PC? HP G62, the machine is R5999.99 - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2364121,00.asp

Hi Khanya...

The link above is for that model with an Intel Core i3... are you sure it is the same for R5999 ? Usually an HP G62 under R6000 would come with Intel Pentium Dual Core.

Do you have a link for that for R5999 with the complete specs??

EDIT: PS. Where about are you in SA?

If in Durban... Look at PC Zones... very good deal this below...

I'm based in East London.
And yes it's an Intel Core Processor i3-350M. Would've fancied a webcam, but no matter I'll purchase it separately, I'll send you the link now now. /*Looking for link.*

That's a nice deal indeed, with a dedicated graphics card too, too bad I'm too far. It makes this R5999.99 deal look like a complete rip-off.

That is still a good price for the above... but the Intel HD graphics is its weak point.
The Lenovo is an excellent deal, its weak point is the Windows 7 Home Basic... but at least its 64bit ... :}

I agree that Windows 7 Home Basic is the weakest link....ouch. Will feel cheated by Microsoft if I must ever run that on a desktop or laptop. :p

Khanya have a look at Game I'm sure i've seen the HP G62's there with 5*** series dedicated graphics - windows basic sucks but you can upgrade it - an onboard graphics is going to suck for you & you ain't going to be able to change it.Maybe rather save some more $

Here but they don't list the details very well.http://www.game.co.za/weeklyleaflets.aspx

HP (Not sure what model)
Intel Pentium
Processor P6100
(3M Cashe,
1.86GHz)
• 3GB DDR3
Memory
• 320GB Hard Drive
• Wireless
• Windows 7 Home
Basic

On
Photoshop
Pinnacle Studio
InDesign
CAD

And games of course.

The box is R4999 at Hi-Fi Corp.
If it's inclining to the rip-off side, please suggest a physical place where I can purchase a laptop for under R5k.

EDIT: I'm based in E.L

It is a great price, but I'm not recommending it for the programs you are going to use it for. It will have integrated graphics which will only be good for very light gaming...and because it's running Windows 7, you'll have even less power when it comes to gaming performance. But it's still a great price.

Thanks dude. I think this is my final choice - HP G62-A25 for R5999.99 at game. Odd enough, I can't find an English site(s) with the specifications of this system. http://www.kris-ark.pl/hp-g62-a25-cat-806-id-5910.aspx

Khanye do you prefer to purchase your notebook from a walk-in store... or you thinking of using online retailers?

If you prefer a walk-in place, then that Game offer seems ok...

EDIT:..

It can become confusing! I think wait a bit... do not rush into it... look around a bit, some specials will be available around Xmas... look at Intel Core i3 as a starting point... and configure it from there...

That looks like a pretty good deal, compared to what I've look at online in the same price range.

Remember the Core 2 Duo's are "previous generation" processors so it's aged before you bought it. A machine with an i3/5 processor is at least a little future-proof, if one can use that term at in in the same sentence as "laptop". It may not be important to you though.

Also: 512MB graphics card means nothing. You have to know the exact model number of it before you can get an estimate of its performance.
But ya, for R6k that still seams like a good deal. Just make sure that they don't bundle or other compulsory subscriptions with it!

Well most games I've seen require (at least) 512MB ATI graphics.
I think it will also prove quite powerful in Photoshop and video editing.

Khanya: I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with an ATI Mobility x1400 512MB and it can't even play Call of Duty 4 on it, where as the ATI Mobility x1600 512MB can play CoD4 just fine! This is why I said that you have to make sure of the graphics card model number.
