Site has a valid SSL certificate. The http part is not redirecting. WordPress site, which means it can't be forced out the box. Needs to create a htaccess file or use a SSL plugin.

His laptops seem to be on par with Amazon pricing.

Does this mean more or less dodgy?

Just pointing out technicalities.

He's probably a one man business and built his own site.

The fact that his cell number doesn't come up on any scam sites might indicate he's legit.

The comments on his Facebook page also look real to me.

His gumtree account was created in Jan 2016. Usually scammers flip accounts like underwear.

Send him a SMS with the link to this thread. Maybe he'll respond :crylaugh:

Did anyone get any more feedback on this or actually proceed with a purchase? There's a lot of speculation in these chats so it would be great to get a firsthand account

Will have my site up soonish for all you guys, will be a private member login with username and password for any dealers associated with the MyBroadband forum. End users are still welcome to deal through me direct on the forum for that personal touch;)

Hi There Bryn.

Laptops at cost is MY Website, I suggest you remove this inflammatory Post.
I am a legitimate business and I supply a number of people on this forum

Really MightyQuin? I dont seem to remember you? What is your name?
I do not buy from Dell Directly - You have half a correct story.
I also don't seem to remember anyone laughing at me and putting down the phone.
I am not happy about you defaming my business, I would appreciate you removing all your awful comments about my company
immediately, otherwise I am going to take Legal advice. I have taken screen shots regardless.
Regards
Martin

I've bought a few laptops from Martin, no issues.

You should tag usernames or quote posts so people are notified that you're talking to them.

Not sure why you'd regard my post as inflammatory when it was just listing a few facts and a conclusion that any reasonable person would have come to based on them.

A better approach would be to just sort out your online store and to report back saying it's been improved and warrants a second opinion.

Rather go to http://co.za and use the WHOIS function there. All that "REDACTED" stuff is coming from GoDaddy or something.
Not a go Daddy thing. The info is fetched from ZACR. Due to GDPR, they are masking that info.

http://.co.za still lists the details though, no masking. However, bigger hosts like Hetzner have started to update domain contact info using a 3rd party privacy protection company to mask details.

Who supplies your Dells then?
I also want to know this, there is like an endless supply of bargain priced new or near new higher end Dell laptops that get listed on Mybb classifieds/Carbonite/Bidorbuy, always wondered where the heck they come from, back of a truck?

I'm sure everyone would love to know where any stock is sourced. Unfortunately that's the key to business.
As for the "back of a truck" comment by airborne , if this was the case you wouldn't be issued an invoice (all my machines are company invoiced), as there are laws in SA, and far too many dodgy machines.
Furthering that in SA you are supposed to have an official second hand dealer license to trade in second hand electronics (Which I have).

My brands are mainly imported from the US. This Thread is coming up in various search engines and the posts are damaging my company reputation with comments made by keyboard warriors.

Can I be frank? Just saw this thread come up for me, so have no skin in the game so to speak.

You really need to work on your marketing skills. This forum can get you more business but you super defensive for whatever reason.

To others, if he is selling Dell stuff, the system tag is the key to the history of the device regardless of where Martin has sourced it. If it was stolen , or back of truck, as some has speculated, it should come up there too. For us, when our Dell kit gets lost or stolen, we inform Dell and it gets blacklisted so no more support for the device as always purchase 3 year NBD.

https://www.dell.com/support/articl...o-report-a-dell-system-lost-or-stolen?lang=en

Martin may now think I am attacking his business , but this is a selling point. It proves legitimatcy of your Dell kit and can help reinforce your reputation.

Cheers
