Latest available OS

I've send this e-mail to Blackberry Support at MTN but I don't get a reply. Seems like the new Official MTN firmware messed up my BB8900.

Hi

I've updated my Blackberry Curve 8900 with the latest firmware on MTNSP website.

File name: 8900M_PBr5.0.0_rel1004_PL5.2.0.58_A5.0.0.592_MTN.exe

Since I've updated the firmware I have problems with my phone going on silent/vibrate by itself. It usually
happens when I receive a message or call while I'm busy typing. Then I have to remove the battery from
my phone and reboot it before it works again.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Regards

Latest update for 8520 off the MTN site does not work: 8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel1096_PL5.2.0.64_A5.0.0.592_MTN.zip

I've tried installing the update on 2 PCs. Once with Windows 7 64-bit and Windows XP SP2, but both fail with a Data1.cab error. WTF!?

I've contacted MTN about this issue.

Looks like you need to register to get the latest fireware (version 5) for the BB 8520 from the Blackberry desktop manager.

The fireware on Vodacom's site looks like 4.6.1.

How can I update to the latest version?

I am digging my BB 8520 but am having issues working out the latest and greatest STABLE os for the phone. Where is the best place to download this... Everything I have found so far seems pretty unstable....

Thought i'd post this here as well for the lazy ppl

9700 Bold: The latest operator approved Ver 5 from the crackberry forum: 5.0.0_rel1655_PL5.1.0.177_A5.0.0.1014

click "同意する(ファイルダウンロード)" Agree (toward the end of the page) to start downloading.

Goto translated download page

Goto original download page

delete the vendor.xml file as usual ;)

Hi
Those that installed OS6 on the 9300,are there any problems?

So far I would consider the only problem to be the confusion I felt for the first like 15 min or so while I figured out what was going on. The UI change is like going from windows 98 to windows 7.

Lots of nice new little features I see, browsers very nicely done. Bit of incompatability here and there with apps.

Evernotes a bit overextended but works, mxit you need to use 5.9.2 as the newer ones also over extended and then IM+ has the same problem. Otherwise everything else works for me @ least. Developers will quickly start releasing updates now with the officials floating out. Mxit on the other hand may take a few more decades.

If I find any more problems ill report, but so far so good.

.

I just installed OS6 on my 9300 - awesome new feel to the phone with the new menu systems and features.

Only problem I experienced so far was that Facebook wasn't available in the Social Feed application, which was fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling the Facebook application.

One bug I've found:

One the home screen when you click on th top bar (battery metre; date; time; network name; network signal strength; data connection type) it comes up with the "Manage Connections" menu. When you go down, the highlight bar disappears when you get to "Set Up, Services and Options" and thereafter scrolling up or down doesn't bring it back and you can't click on anything. "Manage Connections" on the main menu works perfectly fine.

Found another 1, i use the 1 message icon to manage all emails etc, i see there is compose email and compose other>, the other does not expand. Bit annoying but all the compose options are individual from the phone book.

At the end of the day the pros far outweigh the cons so far, strange though as this is an official version and .418 the leaked version has the compose issue in the phone book.

It is much faster, better layout design and better UI, hell the browser on its own is worth the few bugs, for me however i had lil choice, there was an issue with wifi and the original OS i got with the phone when i got it yesterday, if i turned off wifi the phone reset and when it was done booting wifi was still on. This problem was gone when i put on OS6, suppose an OS5 upgrade would of fixed it too but OS6 is way nicer.

My "Compose Other" expands to:
-Compose Text Message
-PIN
-----------------------
-Instant Message
-Social Feeds Post
-Twitter
-Facebook

Have to agree that the advantages outweigh the few minor bugs.

Maybe mine just needs a restart or something...
EDIT - Yes that fixed it...

The official release of OS6 for the 9700 should be soon seeing as the 9300 phone was released a few months after the 9700 --> newest phones get the release the quickest.

For those like me who switched and preferred the OS5 ringtones, RIM was kind and released the OS5 ringtone pack for OS6.

Shot thanks :D

A few good ones on OS6, but missed my old ones.

The original OS6 tones have categories (alarm, ringtone, notify etc), and the downloaded ones don't. So you'll be able to set as a ringtone (media --> ringtones --> set as ringtone), but not as a notifier as it doesn't have a category setting and doesn't come up in the profile settings for notifiers. Or am I missing something?
