Latest available OS

.348 is working okay on my Bold, but I need tu use my Satnav. Gonna have to downgrade again. Please fix this RIM/Telemap!!

I would like to give it a try (Currently using v4.6.0.266 - Vodacom), but am not sure if I wil have application compatibility issues.

I would also like to know the best STEP by StEP guide in doing this <any guides you might suggest)
 
Have a look at the fist post, there is a link to a useful guide there. Crackberry.com also has a few good guides. It really is a simple procedure to upgrade or downgrade. I dont think that you will have issues with this version, but I cannot say for sure. I have not tested it yet. Good luck :)
 
So far, only one reboot in 24hrs. This happened when it disconnected from my bluetooth car kit. Deleted the BT settings and paired again and seems to be okay. I think we're very close to an official V5.0 for the Bold...

Installed and been playing around for a couple of hours now ...

It's FABULOUS!

Only down side is my gorgeous theme I created with Plazmic doesn't work in landscape mode, did a bit of googling and seems I won't be able to fix this until Plazmic release a version for OS 5 :( So I had to go back to uber-boring Zen - UGH!

All my other apps work fine, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, UberTwitter, all working 100% and for those who found that WeatherBug wasn't updating the icon on the Home Screen on OS 5.0.0.230, that's fixed YAY!

My advise, if you can live without your Plazmic Theme, go for it, seems to be a nice version.

Will repost next weekend after running for a week if any problems with usability, etc.
 
Last night, while setting up my wife's new 8520, I decided to do some side by side speedtests with my 8520. I've been running OS5 for a week but the wife's still running OS4 as it came out of the box.

Now, I have noticed that my BlackBerry has been running well this week and I wasn't sure whether to attribute this to OS5 or BIS but after 15 speedtests in different locations ove the course of 2 hours, it looks like it is OS5 after all. BlackBerry 8520 running OS5 averaged 100Kbits/s and topped out at 164.2Kbits/s while BlackBerry 8520 running OS4 averaged 62Kbits/s and topped out at 132Kbits/s. All tests were done simultaneously, in the same location (side by side). 15 tests in total. I'm going to do 10 more tonight and see if the trend holds.

Great stuff, you have a unique opportunity to determine the performance improvements of the 5.0 OS over 4.0 OS.

Someone mentioned performance improvements after reverting to 4.0 but that has not been the case with me.

I can report a much smoother/slicker experience running on 5.

If it is this good now, imagine what it will be like in the official release.

So today didn't turn out quite as well for OS5 but the trend is holding true.
After 10 side by side speedtests throughout the course of the day, BlackBerry 8520 running OS4 averaged a DL of 79.70Kbits/s while BlackBerry 8520 running OS5 averaged DL of 89.34Kbits/s. Average uploads were almost identical at 26Kbits/s.

I was quite disappointed by both of these averages, although I must admit, I didn't notice the slower network speeds when using my device today.

I must say that the first few days were also plain sailing for me but in the last few days, I've noticed the device 'hanging' quite often. Almost like it's processing something and I actually had to do a battery pull once when it didn't snap out of it.

I haven't installed any new software so I don't know why it suddenly started doing this. I must say that although I can use Viigo and Time, I do so with a big loss of usability due to lack of scrolling and at the moment I'm undecided as to whether it's worth running OS5.

From what I have seen, OS5 offers improved network speeds and threaded SMS which looks great but isn't much use to me. The single best thing I've noticed it the ability to scroll through pictures. This was a basic tool which I found sorely lacking in 4.

Thanks for giving us feedback on your findings :)

Point to note here is that the OS 5.0.0.238 is an interim (leaked) version and can in no way be considered final until the official release.

Rather see this as a fore taste of what the upcoming OS 5.0 for 8520 has in store.

There will be issues with certain apps which will be ironed out in the final release as long as there are peeps like us who report their findings :D

I am also finding much improved battery life over OS 4.0 and talking about batteries, a battery pull every now and then is the way of life with Blackberry devices as it stands for now :erm:
