Latest Gumtree scammer

Don’t waste your time. I’ve tried for months to report many of them.
Send their details to Jason at [email protected]
Quite good at getting back to you and putting their information into a rather large database. Sometimes the even upgrade your ad for free which is quite nice.
Be careful. They use every trick in the book.
Good luck

Had a guy contact me wanting to buy something I advertised on Gumtree. Asked a ton of questions even though I listed all details in the ad. He then said he’s keen but he’s located in KZN and asked if he could use Gumtree courier. I said I’d never heard of that and he sent me the below

I them asked him if he could please send me a link to this on their website. He then sent me this

Quick search on Gumtree’s website I came across this

Which I promptly sent to him. Needless to say he blocked me immediately. Wanker.

If only everyone was like you then these guys wouldn't get away these scams.

Hi. Just happened to come across something that's possibly or more than likely a scam of sorts.
I was searching for a particular vehicle ( Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT ) and came across a few ads on Ananzi website selling Jeep's and noticed something wrong. There were a lot of ads that were clearly false and or fake.
First of all the price advertised is clearly far too Cheap and secondly the 6.4L v8 Jeep doesn't run on Diesel. Dead giveaway.
The ads all originate from Ads Afrika and all have 4 Photos posted. The seller is a name and cell number and are for sale at different locations in SA.
I've attached 3 screenshots of one ad but I can promise that there are plenty more. And this is only for one brand of vehicle.
Please don't get taken.
Wish the price was that good though. Bargain. Not.

These days the first sign that someone is a scammer is that they send you "their" ID and address, and license plate and wife's name and whatever before you even ask for anything...

Listed a laptop earlier today and got a call a short time later from a Kendrick - 068 620 2911

Summary of our conversations below
  • His wife's laptop just broke and he urgently needs a replacement
  • He says he's still at work so he'll get his son to come through and look at the laptop and if happy he'll buy it
  • I told him cash only and he says he doesn't like doing cash as he's been robbed when buying items cash (even outside a police station apparently)
  • Says he will do an instant EFT (he's Nedbank I'm FNB) and he'll send me POP and a copy of his ID with his son
  • I go along and say okay see if your son can come through
  • Calls back 5 mins later saying because I'm a new beneficiary the money can take 30-60 minutes to clear but not to worry he'll forward me a screenshot of the transaction from his account, POP and his son will hand me a copy of his ID
  • Tell him his son will have to wait until the money has cleared into my account before leaving with the laptop. He says his son cant wait as he's using an Uber to get to me
  • I again say then he needs to bring cash as this sounds suspicious. He then asks me how much I'm selling the laptop for (he should obviously know this) and when I tell him the price he laughs and says why would he try and scam me out of that amount of money
  • I again reiterate either cash or his son waits until the money has cleared. He sighs and says he'll try and get someone to bring his son through and he'll get back to me
  • Haven't heard from him since

I was pretty sure this guy was a scammer from the beginning but decided to go along and see how it played out.

These scammer cnts are all over Fb marketplace now, fortunately it’s easy to spot them because their english is pretty sht and from the first message they want to take the chat straight to whatsapp without asking any questions about whatever you are selling. I’m assuming if they try the scam on FB messenger they quickly get banned, I noticed the first guy that tried me blocked me on FB as soon as we started chatting on whatsapp so I couldn't report his profile.

This is a big red flag for me, they always try and put you under pressure and make it a time sensitive thing. Not my problem buddy.

Pretty basic scam tactics. Anything that places emotion on a sale is likely a scam. Just walk away if it feels weird
