Yeah. I've manged to do some googling. Looks like value to me. There's a 50" Samsung that has my name written all over it.

Go for it and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. I'm still running my 42" Sammy for the past four years and I'm very happy with the quality.

Well, I had a Kalahari voucher so I sprung for the Samsung 48. Ended up at R6500 after all the vouchering. I have a bright living room and nothing's going to change that. I'll let you know how I feel about it. I'm going to run the avsforum calibration disc on it. KM/Sauron, is there some metric of "good" that I can give you all?

Having done some more reading, I might well end up going that way as well. The cheaper plasmas are not HD as it turns out... May as well shell out the extra cash for the increase in quality.

Mine is not FHD either but the quality is still excellent. I recommend taking a flash drive with some content to the store and testing it.

Mmmm, OK.

The price different is significant. There is an LG 50" plasma which is 5999 with a 500 Kalahari voucher, vs the 48" Sammy LED which is 7499 also with a 500 voucher.

Edit, it's actually the Samsung plasma that is 5999 with the voucher.

There's a couple of plasma's out there that are REAL low resolution so watch out for that when buying a cheap one.

HD ready (720p) is great and most can hardly tell the difference between that and Full HD (1080p). Some of these panels though are 570p or something and I just can't imagine it will look very good.

Mine has a low res but the quality is still fantastic. SD is good and HD is awesome.

This Samsung plasma for 5999 is 852x480.

Im thinking maybe the extra 1499 for the 48" Samsung LED might be worth it, despite the slightly smaller screen area...

The LG plasma that Takealot have is 5369 and is 1024x768 (HD ready) which is the same as the old Samsung 32" LCD I'm currently running...

Eish, that is rather low. Mine's 1024x768 (HD ready). I saw one at Game for R4400 not too long ago and it was HD ready.

I was seriously considering that LG plasma as well. I went with the LCD because my room is pretty bright.

Plasma going to get washed out if the room is too bright?

How bright is too bright? :p

My 13th cheque is starting to burn a hole in my leg... Keen for this plasma at this stage.

How's the Sammy treating you?

I just pulled the trigger on the 48" from Kalahari.

Have to wait until Monday for delivery :/

I must confess it's sitting in the box at my office. Kalahari delivered promptly on Monday, but I've had a crazy week, so no time to play.

Let us know when yours arrives!

I have a stupid question.. My viewing distance for the lounge would be 3 to 4 meters, with one couch directly ahead and another aligned in an L shape you could say. The direct couch would be 4, while the aligned one would be a bit more than 3

Would a 48" be large enough, or would you recommend going to 55" - 60" range (maybe even more?)

Internet size charts will have you at 60+ for those distances. Take a tape measure to a store and have a look.
