I really think that is due to the size, i.e. 1920x1080 on 60" vs 51".

If they use the same pixel size on the 60 as they do on the 50 which I suspect they have done but thats my problem they need to make bigger pixels for a bigger panel. If you look at some of the other higher end 60-65inch plasmas or lcd TV's the problem is gone its not a plasma issue its just a low end TV. I want to go look at the LG plasma still and see if it suffers from the same issue.

I doubt that, but 1920x1080 is obviously going to give you a less sharp picture the larger the screen is.

From which viewing distance did you notice this 'black space'?

The LG is also an excellent option, scarce though. Definitely link OP if you can find one.

Bit of a weird one. I bought a Samsung UA46H7000 which had a issue with the coloring on half the screen after a month. They have offered to swop it with a UA55HU7200!
That seems like a too good to be true scenario? Is there something about that set?

Edit: doesn't have 3D I see. Wonder if the kids would notice :)

My Samsung 64F8500 Plasma was recently swapped out under warranty for an Ultra HD Curved 65HU8700

Personally I still prefer plasma over LED, but I can't argue with the value they've gifted me on a 15mth old screen! And I'll be smiling when some UHD content comes out.

The painful process I went through dealing with them to get the warranty sorted (6 weeks!) is another matter.

From all sorts of distances but it was side by side with a high end 65inch plasma which was beautiful but 3 times the price.

Have you actually looked at it properly? The pixels are tiny for the screen size as a result there is a lot of dead black space between the pixels I would guess 30% of the display is dead. It is really blocky and you are promoting it for picture quality which in my opinion is way worse than 80% of the TV's out there. I own a 51d550 by the way and have gone in to buy the 60inch as I love my 50inch full of joy for my new plasma only to be totally floored by how poor it is.

Plasma has superior picture quality and motion handling.

It is not superior just for sport. Overall, it is the best.

The only area where LCD is better, is for PC use or use where there are excessive static images. Don't worry about it though. LCD is also brighter, and better for bright rooms.

Gotta side with Postman on this one... as mentioned earlier, my 64" F8500 plasma recently died and Samsung gave me the 65HU8700 curved UHD screen as a replacement. (figured it was a score, since the R34k 15mth old screen was replaced with a R47k new unit!)

In MANY respects, especially motion, sport and viewing angles, the plasma was better.

The UHD screen obviously looks fantastic with UHD material, but with 1080i DStv and 1080p media the picture only looks as good as the plasma if viewed within a 20 degree angle, anything past that point and the picture looks washed out.

The blacks on this LED are impressive, closest I've ever seen to plasma, and this is the best LED I've ever seen, but sport is still better on the plasma. The new screen has a nice fast processor, everything is quicker in the menus and the remote is much better.

Quite interesting video below:
Seems that plasma wins yet again due to its superior image quality. Also keep in mind that this comparison was done with actual 4K Netflix content. DSTV and Bluray will probably make the difference even greater between plasma and UHD LED:

Puts things into perspective succinctly, correlates with Tag11's views too.

Also, such a pity that those who think LCD is better will never see this sort of thing. RIP plasma.

I saw this one: LG 60PB5600 - but only has 1X HDMI which is a huge problem for me.

I am still extremely tempted to go for the Samsung UHD one still.

So it seems the family do want to keep the 3D option. Any suggestions in the R10k mark?
