Hey, dude - if it's not too much trouble, can you try that out with a blu-ray video and let us know? I'd be interested to see what the result is...my blu-ray player upscales DVD to 1080p and I was actually taken aback by the improvement (DVD's I'd watched previously actually did look better on my TV). Colour me surprised.
Both my tvs are 1080p so I wouldn't be able to notice the difference :D

Yeah so that is my dilema. I can go for a Hisense 55" for R9999 or a Samsung 50" UHD - the bigger one is more tempting but just don't know how picture quality will hold up against the Samsung with movies and games.

I'd go check what the Samsung looks like in store. I don't know if you watch sports at all but I find it hard to believe Supersport's 1080i sports coverage looks that good upscaled that much.

Personally, I would take the larger screen.

I am going to look at the TV after work.

One of the main usages for the TV is sport and that I wont sacrifice on.

I really dont know why you promote this tv.

Why, because it's pentile? Hot air IMO. It's a plasma and it smokes LCD. Particularly for sport and size/value.

More importantly, it's the last plasma to grace this planet, where consumers now have **** all choice, having had a lesser technology forced upon them.

Nice. ;)

You find that most retail stores don't stock this TV anymore, let alone any plasmas (RIP).

Free delivery from Takealot (±R200), online convenience and guaranteed service. Unless H&H are online etc.

They're also down the road from weelzSA. :p

Haha... Indeed they are.

I think that is great value but my problem comes in the fact that they are end of life so what will the warranty be like and how will replacment parts ect affect me. I dont want to buy something just because it is cheap and then later down the line have endless problems.

Would I not be better off buying the Samsung 50" UHD for R10k and know I am sorted for warranty issues / replacement parts for a while?

2 year warranty, same as any Samsung TV.

I would not be concerned. It's "cheap" because the industry marketing conned people into thinking LCD is better, therefore demand for plasma went down, even though it is better. It's worth much more than R11k, trust me.

Have you actually looked at it properly? The pixels are tiny for the screen size as a result there is a lot of dead black space between the pixels I would guess 30% of the display is dead. It is really blocky and you are promoting it for picture quality which in my opinion is way worse than 80% of the TV's out there. I own a 51d550 by the way and have gone in to buy the 60inch as I love my 50inch full of joy for my new plasma only to be totally floored by how poor it is.

Plasma has superior picture quality and motion handling.

It is not superior just for sport. Overall, it is the best.

The only area where LCD is better, is for PC use or use where there are excessive static images. Don't worry about it though. LCD is also brighter, and better for bright rooms.

I really think that is due to the size, i.e. 1920x1080 on 60" vs 51".
