just got a sms from makro about the sinotec 32" FHD LCD TV going for R2489, but in kzn only
is this good buy?? any1 know if the sinotec's have wireless capabilities?

Can you afford +-R3,300? Then no; the Samsung LA32D550 is the one to go for.
 
Hi guys, my first post here.

I'm looking at buying a TV purely for PC and PS3 use (Media/Gaming on both). In other words just a glorified monitor :)

I've had my eye on the Sony 32EX720 for a bit, which I saw for R7500 on a couple online stores, and the Samsung 32D6000 for just less. Thing is (which makes this relevant in this topic), I got offered a Samsung 40C6200 at R7999 from a trustworthy store (personal deal so I can't say which store). Would this be a bargain or have I been looking at the wrong stores/sites for prices? Basically it's the last one they have of the model and are trying to clear it from stock (Haven't seen the TV itself, still boxed, etc). Is the 32EX720 or 32D6000 still worth considerring over the 40C6200 at that price (newer model vs bigger screen)? I'll be buying end of May, but they have promised to keep the 40C6200 aside if I say I want it.

40C6200 sounds like a 2010/2011 6 Series LED backlit LCD. Probably not such a bad TV despite its being a bit older. Maybe that's why they told you to keep quiet? :p

For R7,999 you can probably find a 40D6000 2011/12 LED backlit LCD, could be better. Plus, E range is almost here... So they need to come up with a better offer if they want to sell you a 2 generation old 40" 6 Series at that price.

They'll all the good for PC.

Definitely take 40"+ over 32" though.
 
Hmm, lowest I've seen for the 40D6000 is a couple hundred over R10k
AFAIK the C range are the 2010 range. Edge lit LED like all Sammy/Sony (IIRC)
Apparently it's only R300 above cost, but I don't trust them that much :P

Any chance you can find a link with a 40D6000 or 40EX720 below R10k? Would prob end up getting that then.

So anyway, I got a great deal on a Sammy 55D7000 the I could not pass up.
I know it's last years model but I'm loving it! Still have to tweak the settings a bit, but other that I'm a happy camper!

The kids love the 3D!

Its a great TV.

Could easily last you for the next 15 to 20 years.

- living room TV, viewing distance 2m,
- to be also used for gaming (1/3 of the time),
- limited glare required,
- size; 40''+
- budget R4-6,000
- to buy over this weekend (26 - 29 April).

I would really appreciate your advice.

Samsung 46" D5000 Full HD LED TV at Game - R7699 comes with a free pvr decoder.

Has anyone got this tv? Good deal?

Makro had the Samsung LA46D660 CCFL backlit LCD, 46", 50Hz on special for R5,999 last week which would have been ideal due to the matte finish opposed to the glossy finish on the LED backlit LCDs (>UAxxD5000). Pity you missed that.

So your immediate options from Samsung would be LA40D550 40" same as above at around R5k or UA40D5000 LED-LCD, 40", 50Hz at around R6k.

I would really try waiting for another 46" on special though as the size increase is beneficial for everything especially gaming. Stick to Samsung/LG/Sony IMO. LG seems the most competitive, maybe they have good pricing on their 47" LCDs...

I will have a look at this one. However, it has to pass through the Mrs given the fact that it exceeds our budget.

Nevertheless, with the PVR decoder added it is worth considering.

It looks like a good deal to me.

I have also been looking at some Sinotecs 42" and the Makro people recommend them - they have a good price. I for one think that the 5yr guarantee makes the TVs worth the money or the risk.

The problem is that it has a glossy front, not good for reflections.

Stay away from Sinotech unless you're on a real budget, you can't compare the quality.

In terms of requirements, I'm looking for a living room led tv for normal tv viewing. I'd also like to connect it to my laptop to use it as a monitor. Viewing distance is probably less than 1m and the room's well lit. My budget is around 5 -6k and min 42". I came across this deal at Game and it looks pretty good! So I am considering shelling out more for the extra size. I don't really need the decoder though (will probably try to sell it).

On a side note, is it possible to use the tv as a monitor for my laptop using a wireless connection (not just for watching movies) or would I need to get a cable?
