Hey Mr PostmanPot:

I think these are the new Game specials, what do you think of the Au40D for 5k? crap? ok? don't go there? Should I rather stick to getting the 40D550?

The 40D550 is on the top of my list so far from the input from you and the other guys on here...I'm just checking what my options are in the same price range

Thanks again.

Hey hey, definitely the LA40D550 CCFL-LCD due to its extra features and connectors like USB HD media player, 3/4 x HDMI, etc.

UA40D5003 has only 1 x HDMI and a non HD USB media player. Perhaps you like the LED back-lighting though, check it out if you only need 1 x HDMI and/or already have an HD media player. If your room is bright you could benefit.

If you are then dead set on LED-LCD, try go for UA40D5000/D5500 as they have those extra connectors and features.

Feel free to list your intended usage, room type, viewing distance, and any other factors you see fit.

Intended usage: Connect pc to it using HDMI - this wont be my primary monitor tho, this is just to stream movies from pc.
Room type: My room is quite bright in the day, but I normally play Xbox and watch movies at night.
Viewing distance: about 3 meters or so.
I don't care much about the tv being LED or LCD, I care more about image quality.
They HD player - do you know if it only reads fat32 drives? If it plays media straight off my 1tb NTFS that would be so awesome then I won't even need to connect it to my pc.

Either of the TVs mentioned will do great then, especially if you ever wanted to work on a PC (Samsung PC Mode is excellent). Used my LA32C550 for 8 months as a PC screen.

Lots of people prefer plasma image quality (I do, also have a C450 42" plasma (to compare my LCD to)), so if you are open to the idea :wtf:, and if you like Samsung, you should just check out the PS51D450 51" HD Ready plasma at around R6k. From 3m you'd definitely benefit from the 11" extra size. Downsides are HD Ready (not a problem for most people from longer viewing distance), reflective screen (similar but worse than the LED-LCDs), and higher electricity use (R15 - R20 per month average).

Always best to check TVs out at dimly lit stores. The common bright shop lighting throws one off and makes it hard to gauge, even works in the salesmens' favour.

I think I will decide between the two I mentioned, think my gut is saying the d550 because I can make use of the extra hdmi and features. There is a spot in the wall for the tv, a 51 inch will never fit in there. First prize is sticking to my budget of 5k..

Thanks a lot for you help again man, I will come back and let you know what I think of my new tv :)
