LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Depends on viewing distance and content. :)

Too often are we told that resolution is the be all and end all.
I get that after whatever distance depending on the screen size you can't tell the difference between 720P and 1080P, but really a 852x480 TV, it's almost 2015.

Still good business sense catering for the entry level of the market. Not to mention people who sit far or who have mainly SD content. This TV is clearly not meant for those keeping up with technology (whether what we're fed is useful or not). I bet you'd be impressed at the quality of HD from 4m on an ED plasma.

How is the Sansui brand?

I stand to be corrected but from the cheaper brands I think it goes:

1. Hisense
2. Sinotec
3. Sansui
Seems about right.

On that note: ended up getting the 55 inch 3D smart Hisense, looks very nice and picture is quite nice (ignoring SABC and DSTV because SD on a 55 inch looks sif no matter what TV you have). Blu-ray, storage media, and games really do look nice and for the price (9,000) I'm satisfied

Only issue would be that I can't do or test much of the smart functionality due to the fact that my phone line is dead, and ADSL along with it. Pity

The only place I think the Enhanced Definition TV is a good idea is maybe for the older people in your life still on a CRT or in a pub.

Or where the option is 32" HDR LCD vs 43" ED plasma, with a majority of SD content. Size tends to win always.

Too me it looks so pretty watched a blueray movie from about 2.7m and better than I expected.

Seriously? In this day and age you are punting that? Have you ever seen an ED resolution on anything bigger than 19"? Because there isn't enough distance in the world for you to say it would be a superior pq

So, everyone should stay away from the PS43H4000 then?

It doesn't depend on distance and content?

Are you sure?

Yes I am sure, unless it's a pub or a public place normal everyday users should. HD content isn't that rare anymore and buying technology from 20 years ago isn't a good idea.

You won't understand if you're applying your own circumstances and needs. No one is advising anyone to buy one, merely challenging the statement "Please everyone just stay away from the H4000 Samsung" as that is completely based on various factors that may not apply to you, which I'll leave you to think about.

Lastly, I will repeat: Too often are we told that resolution is the be all and end all. TVs and smartphones alike. Merely generating hype so that those ignorant keep buying.

Some would just never decide to retire. I still punt my old valve amp as the best ever.
