LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Nevermind, went to the shops today and got a LG C7 + mount and instalation for same price as the Sony :)

Congrats dude. I have the B7 and I am perpetually in awe with it. My HD content is amazing. Waiting until I can get a true 4K picture going through, but in the mean time it is nothing but superb.

one the awesome perks of living in this place. R600 for it, pure internet bliss :D.

And yeah, i probably don't even understand the difference of my current TV to what i'm getting.
Monday must happen now!

Damn im in love. What a beautiful piece of viewing pleasure.

Picture quality is insanely crisp , near perfect blacks and dolby vision make for an awesome experience.
WebOS is a piece of cake to use. Out of box settings for picture modes (Expert bright/dark room, Cinema for dolby vision) are fantastic, they take away any form of soap opera affect or juddering like the other modes have.

I've only tested using Netflix. Upscaling from FHD to UHD is brilliant too. Picture quality is fantastic, didn't find any artifacts that distracted me.

WebOS is awesome, super easy to use, fast and responsive. Connected my sound bar via optical cable, set up the magic remote to control it, painless task.
Love the magic remote with the pointer on the screen, so much better than the appletv 4 remote i was using before. Despise that thing.

All in all, pure happiness. The guys installed it on an awesome bracket which was included.

Now i just need more 4k / Dolby vision content :(

Has anyone used/heard/seen the Hisense 65" N8700? (http://www.hisense.co.za/product/65-4k-uled-smart-n8700-65n8700uwg)

Price has recently dropped, but I can't find a thing about it online. I realise it's pretty new, but there doesn't seem to be a single review, professional or otherwise.

Also curious if anyone has an opinion on the LG 65SJ800V?

I am using the LG 65SJ800V.
I opted for this because the whole range uses the same panel, so it would be pointless to fork out more.
Secondly, I don't need the Harmon Kardon setup as I have a separate sound setup.

The TV is huge, it's lovely, but it struggles a bit with dark scenes.

What else do you want to know?

Expert mode is exactly the same one I picked for general viewing.

Also looking at the Hisense 65N8700UWG

Has 1000 Nits peak brightness for HDR - basically I read it uses a Samsung Quantum Dot panel in the 55 and 65 models.

See it online for R26k - that's a bargain, considering the middle range Samsung 65MU7000 is not much cheaper with less.

...the other model in Hisense’s ULED range is the NU8700 which will be available in the UK in 55- and 65-inch screen sizes. The NU8700 is also Ultra HD Premium certified but uses edge LED lighting and local dimming with 16 zones. The NU8700 also supports High Dynamic Range, specifically HDR10, it can also deliver 1,000nits of peak brightness and uses quantum dot to reproduce a wider colour gamut that’s nearly 100% of DCI-P3. It also includes Hisense’s Vidaa smart TV platform with quad core processing, over 200 apps including Netflix, Amazon and YouTube (all with 4K HDR). There’s built-in WiFi, Freeview Play, a web browser, USB recording, a media player, Dolby Digital support, HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0. The NU8700 has an ultra slim bezel-less design with a black border, a silver trim and a central chrome stand. The H65NU8700 and H55NU8700 will both be available in August, again there's no official pricing yet but we're sure it will please TV enthusiasts.

I didn't know that - that does indeed make it quite an attractive offering, going purely by specs. The lack of any reviews at all is bizarre, considering it's been out since August.

I suspect they've been clearing out stock of the 2016 models and ramping up production - at least locally - of the new models.

Makro, Dion Wired etc had some good specials on the 2016 range recently, I'm sure it will be available widely soon.

There doesn't seem to be anything else remotely close for features and spec at this price point ...

R26k

I don't see it online anywhere else though, so I'm not sure if the R39k RRP is valid, or R26k is the current selling price.

I see they are listing this now for R35k at Dion Wired on "special" and a few other places on pricecheck.

LOL.

No thanks, moving right along.

Black Friday conundrum...

So I've had my eye on an LG B7/C7 OLED for quite a while. Size wise I'm looking more at a 55" mainly because of price (and the fact that a 65" would probably be a bit too much for the room).

Makro has the 55" C7 on special for R29,999 in their Christmas catalogue (R49,999 for the 65" with an SJ7 soundbar included).

But Black Friday has thrown in a curveball as the Samsung Store/Makro/Dion Wired has the entry level QLED Q7 for R19,999 (55" flat) or R29,999 (65" curved).

The C7 is obviously the better choice ito picture quality and specs (webOS 3.5, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos), whereas the Q7 mostly has design (incl. much better cable management with the OneConnect box and a more premium remote) in its favour. But is the C7 worth R10,000 more?

Any thoughts from C7 or Q7 owners?

All the x7 OLEDs use the same panel so that's surprising because the B7 is supposed to be the "entry level" set.
Exactly. But unlike last year's x6 sets, the only real differences between the B7 and C7 is the design and speakers (although it's not exactly clear what the difference in the speaker setup is)
