I bought the PS43D452 over the weekend. It is up and running now and I am happy with it. Haven't even adjusted any settings, just went with the default home setup settings it came with.
Asked the salesman what the difference is between the 450 and the 452 - he seemed knowledgeable but couldn't answer that either.
Was worried that the plasma is going to be too reflective, but I am so used to the CRT that anything is an improvement.
What do you guys think of the 40" Sony (kdl40cx520 ) that audiovision has on special for R4499?
You can check the difference at Samsung's website, http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/co...compare?prda=PS43D452A5XXA&prdb=PS43D450A2XXA
After a quick look it seems that the 452 has a caption/subtitle function, which the 450 does not have.
Where did you buy and what cost?
No idea how good this tv is, but Pick and Pay hyper has it for R4000.

Whoa! do you know until when - only saw this now - went and bought the tv already - can still return...
See if they pricematch. Save you a bit of hassle.

Agreed. AFAIK part of CPA dictates they should.
Whether the D550 plasma is just a bad example, I'm not sure - but certainly not great.
Even my 2 year LCD has better a black level the D550 plasma. I went through to Dions Wired Woodmead and the one they had was grey as well. It was actually horrible compared to the LED next to it that had real blacks!
To close the loop on the Sony - no one has stock - closest Hyper comes is the Sammy 40" for the same price as the Sony.
The Sammy definitely plays .avi's and would have been my pick... If it's the LA40D550. The lesser D503 (or similar) with 1 x HDMI has no HD media player, in which case the Sony is better.

When we viewed the Samsung PS51D550 in a darkened room, we could tell that the darkness of its blacks wasn’t up to the market-leading standards of the Panasonic Plasma TVs, although we weren’t really troubled by the image on offer. In other words, the black level quality was adequate, although not class-leading. Imagine our delight when we used our Klein K-10 meter to get the hard data on the PS51D550′s black level quality, and found that it performed almost identically to Samsung’s top-end Plasma TV for 2011, the D8000
Erk - quite poor then!
Lmao!
"Bias!"
"You're an owner defending your purchase!"
"My B650 6 Series R22,000 2 year 40" LCD has better peak black levels!"
"The blacks aren't black!"
It's like the kettle calling the pot black...
