LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Well your media is at least sorted, since both TVs play HD and other video files via USB. :D

Night time and sports/movies is screaming plasma hey... But if you want to stick with LCD then perhaps the EH5000's advertised clear motion rate means it handles motion better than the D550. It won't match plasma though, hence why it's most often used for sport.

Sounds like there could be some lighting in the path of the screen. I would say you're on the right track with EH5000 and D550 especially for use within 2m and for PC (LCD is much crisper than plasma up close esp. for PC). UH5000 does have a glossy screen which could be something to consider. I suggest testing these in the way I've mentioned, of course don't discount LG (and Sony to a lesser degree), LG has better pricing it seemsand some cheap models even have partial micro dimming, I believe.

Thanks for all your advice and help. I really appreciate it. I have a few offers of R2000 for my 32 inch, so hoping I can get my new LCD this weekend or next week.

You are not going to get it at a better price although Game was selling that same model for R3899.00 last weekend.

I have two of them and they are perfect for me.
 
So I hooked up a hd pvr to my plasma yesterday. Sammy B450 if I remember correctly. The hd channels are phenomenal! But very disappointed with the non hd channels. The sd decoder delivered much more brighter and vibrant pictures. It looks like that dull lcd picture that I hate :sick: when the olympics is done ill probably hook up my sd decoder again.

That's odd, can't say the same for my C450 and one view/record HD PVR, has a phenomonal SD picture quality. Running over HDMI should significantly improve SD quality as well by upscaling. What looks bad is my C550 32" LCD connected with composite to SD decoder. :(

You sure you're not just too used to HD now? :D

Can't find anything decent at Game or Makro, besides LG 50" HD Ready at R6,999 and Hisense 50" HD Ready 3D at R7,499. Not good prices considering Samsung 51"/LG 50" HDR plasmas have been as low as R5,999, and Samsung 51" HDR 3D R6,999 (specials).

If you can up your budget to R8-9k, the PS51D550/PS51E550 are best bang for buck options at the moment. Cheapest Full HD plasma.

OK guys I need a screen for my bedroom but can only fit a 40 inch max. It needs to hang on a bracket from the wall and be
able to swivel out of the way of a closet.

Viewing distance is about 3 m. Will only be used when not on my 50 inch Samsung plasma.

Def needs media playing abilities and networking to connect to my media server.

I was looking at getting a Samsung again or what would you guys suggest and
where will I get the best price on a 40 inch currently.

Usually from Game, with their price beat policy where they beat better prices by 10% of the difference in price.

Samsung PS43D/E450 43" HDR plasma, LA40D550 40" FHD CCFL-LCD, UA40D/EH5000 40" LED-LCD all have HD USB media players.

But only the LA40D550 has Ethernet/DLNA for network connection.

lol. i wish. but the picture is very sexy i must admit. i foresee time spent on watching nonsense just to watch that schexy picture:whistle:

which setting should i play with? wont that affect my HD picture though? i'm willing to try to get that lcd-ish picture gone. bear in mind my settings have been standard since the beginning! :D
 
Anybody know what the spec difference is between the Sammy PS43D490 and the PS43E490? I know the D are last year's models and E are the new ones - I'm asking what's been changed.
