LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

That's true, but it is still informative... :)

You need to do a reset on the system.
Press Menu
Go to Support
Go to Self Diagnosis
Press Reset

This will reset the system back to factory settings, with the exception of the network settings.
*This is where that thread comes in to play *
Ensure that you have your network set up for US settings before continuing
Once you start setting up the system again, it will be set for US

I'm not sure about UK, but the same principles apply.
Just DNS settings, no VPN or Proxy required

Hope that helps

Depends what you're using it for? List the uses please.

It's not 100Hz. False advertising.

EH4003 means the USB port does not play videos/HD videos. Also means fewer HDMI ports. Diluted, poor menus and fewer settings.

Minimum I'd go for, depending on use, would be UA32EH5000. 5 Series = Full HD 1920x1080, and this one has a USB port that plays all media including HD.

EH5003 is subject to the same diluting - no USB media player, fewer HDMI ports, poor menu, fewer settings.
playing HD videos off the USB mostly, and sometimes watching blu ray movies.

Shouldn't threads like this be "refreshed", "closed" as it appears so stale and really overworked with repitive answers and boring arguments? Give New Guys the chance to ask their own questions and get fresh answers?

no

This is very minimal - the community need a little more than a "no". No offence intended.

No.

Welcome to the forum!

The bug has bitten - want to replace my functional sinotec 40" LCD with something a bit... sexier...
Looking at the 46" Samsung ES7500 or ES8000 - wish they were cheaper though!!! Any thoughts - waste or worth it?

As with most things, its a case of diminishing returns. If you have the dosh then go ahead, but generally a mid-range model will give you 90% of the benefits at up to half the price. Check out models like the 46ES6200 LED or 51E550 plasma.

Also to get the best out of top end models you require pristine quality input, so don't just spend everything on the TV. Consider investing in input devices (& content) like Bluray player, DSTV HDPVR, HTPC, PS3, XBOX etc.

@JustinB
I recently bought the Samsung 46ES6200 - Awesome bit of kit.
It has all the mod cons, except for built-in camera for Skype and motion control.

I got an excellent deal at Govan Mani in Gateway Centre, Umhlanga.
R10 999 includes:
VA46ES6200 SMART 3D LED TV
6X 3D active glasses
3x Bluray 3D movies
1x Samsung Smart 3D Blu-Ray Dvd player - BD-E5500

I also opted for the Samsung Smart TV Bluetooth keyboard @R699

This all came to below what Game were selling the unit for that EXCLUDED the Blu-ray player and Extra 4 pair of 3D glasses and keyboard.

Thanks for the response. All my content is 1080p and looks nice(ish) on my current set. I think what's gotten me down is I've seen the difference a true 100hz panel makes + decent picture processing (I somehow doubt my sinotec has the same tech as these new gen Sammies or LGs).

What I'm struggling with too is the marketing gibberish around "clear motion rate" and "micro-dimming edge-lit" etc. I understand the concepts, and how it works - i guess i just don't know if its worth paying ~R5k to go from 400/600hz CMR to 800hz CMR or whatever... and on edge-lit, does micro-dimming really help (let alone micro-dimming pro or ultimate!)...

Also - tbh - I don't really care about 3d - just want an awesome 2D picture that looks better than real life.

I hear the point re pay half and get 90% of the benefit - i just don't want to sit and regret not paying a bit more and getting that extra few % - so want to get a set that i can sit back and enjoy with no regrets...

Well at an engineering level these more advanced capabilities are genuine, however whether they manifest as tangible improvements to ones viewing experience is more subjective, especially considering the additional price you pay.

Unfortunately there is no simple answer, you'll have to spend some time evaluating/comparing the models yourself.

i got the same setup for 10 800. i win.... :D (not the keyboard)

@Sensorei...
You're right of course, maybe I should have also just gotten a Mecer TV, or Hisense... Would have saved a bundle....

******, you can use the Samsung keyboard to pair with any Bluetooth device... It's compact, stylish, has built-in mouse pad, and has all the remote buttons of the Smart TV Remote. You get what you pay for.

Go troll elsewhere
