Lol. That keyboard was pretty badly designed and the fact that it doesn't work in most apps and you have to switch to the remote makes it a waste of money. It's ridiculous that it doesn't support all the tv functions. Even on Samsung's site reviews rate it 2/5 average. Enjoy your cr@p keyboard. ;)

LG 42" 3D LED TV for R5999 with 4x passive glasses at Hifi corp?

Update: So I ended up going for a Logik 46" fullHD LCD TV. As luck would have it, I walked into Game just as they were busy marking it down. From R6 999 to R3 500 :)

I wanted a brand name, but made peace with the fact that this one came with 3yr guarantee, has 3xhdmi, 2xusb & a whole lot of other fancy gadgets which I'll never use :)
 
I see Hertz have the LG42PA4500 going for R3999 today. Anybody have any experience with this TV?

Plasma - like which model? :) Interestingly enough, 51" HDR plasmas are now 1024x768.

LCD - 32"?

It's a great idea if on a budget, value size and picture quality under the right dimmer/night time conditions (plasma), value both SD and HD, and sit at a distance (not such an issue with 32").

Not a great idea if you value HD and sit close, have bright conditions (plasma vs LCD, LCD would be better), etc.

So it depends. Nothing wrong with the resolution if you sit far enough. Most TV rooms I've seen always exceed the distance at which most people cannot distinguish HD/FHD.

What's for sure though, is that entry plasma still whips entry LCD in terms of PQ.

I also have another question for you. My father-in-law (to-be) just bought a 46" LED (yes I know) 3d TV. I dont know the model, but its a Samsung.

When you watch a movie in either 720p or 1080p (off a flash stick) it looks really weird. I know its a 3d TV, but I would have thought that only 3d specific blue0-rays would look 3d-ish. The thing is, that even the 2d stuff looks bloody weird to me. Its almost like its more "real", even a bit toonish if that makes sense... Makes you feel like you not watching a movie, but rather sitting there with them.

Now while this sounds all good and well, it actually isnt. I find it quite distracting and Im wondering if these new 3d TV's offer some more depth of field or something, that makes the image appear different (in terms of above)

Model?

Perhaps the motion enhancement settings? As in higher Hz (frame rate) / CMR.

Some love it, some hate it. I dopn't like it, very unnatural IMO.

Is this only when playing off USB? :confused:

they dont have DSTV or Blu-Ray player connected... bit of a waste imho

so the only time you can really see it is when we watch series/movies that I download from iTunes ;)

doesnt seem to bother them, but they rather oblivious to anything technology related...

I'm interested to figure out how these things work too... passive especially. Where are the polarised filters on the screen.

Sounds like it could be the soap opera effect.


Soap Opera Effect

The "video" look is a byproduct of the perceived increase in framerate due to the interpolation and is commonly referred to as the "Soap Opera Effect", a reference to the distinctive appearance of most broadcast television soap operas, which were typically shot using less expensive 30 fps video rather than regular broadcast equipment or film.[16][clarification needed] Some complain that the effect ruins the theatrical look of cinematic movies.[10] Others appreciate motion interpolation as it reduces motion blur produced by camera pans and shaky cameras and thus yields better clarity of such images. For this reason, almost all manufacturers have built in an option to turn the feature off. The soap opera effect can also be known as "Judder adjustment" or "Judder Removal".[17] This "video look" is created deliberately by the VidFIRE technique to restore archive television programs that only survive as film telerecordings.[18]

So how is the TV setup? Plenty of settings you can alter on modern LED TV to alter the look of the picture e.g. main picture setting presents e.g Movie etc, motion handling e.g. Motion Plus & LED Motion Plus, filtering e.g. MPEG/Digital etc.

Try experimenting a bit, you can always reset to defaults if things look worse.
