Walmart had their 42" 3D LED TV and 2*glasses + BD film included for R9999.00. I do not want to pay R7000.00 for "ancient" and outdated HD ready technology thanks. Some are taking their bias for plasma too far by recommending to poor victims to buy what they will regret very soon as TV LCD prices are falling sharp.

At HouseAndHome is a 46" Full HD Samsung is going for R7489.00

How is it it ancient and outdated if they don't have a Blu-ray player, or 1080p media, or if they sit far outside the distance recommended for 1080p, per screen size, from the TV like most people do? :confused:

It's about what their needs are. If you have a Blu-ray player and you have a budget of R7,000 then yes perhaps you would want to sacrifice sheer picture quality (plasma) for resolution (LCD).

But, then we have 51" 1080p plasma at R10,000 putting a spin on things - when 1080p is needed for Blu-ray etc... ;)

But if you need 1080p (which most people don't) then I guess you need 1080p...

Ah the old and worn out "distance" argument. There is a huge difference between Full HD and HD ready. Once they have an decent full HD TV then obviously they can invest in a BD player, it's not that expensive anymore. People do not know what their "needs" are unless they know about the technology on offer and what the advantages are. You sound so typical of a Bears furniture salesman trying to get rid of his old stock before the new stock arrives. :) I rather tend to purchase and invest for future needs not only for the current need and definitely not for past requirements, thanks.

Yup, he's the kind of person who will buy a new TV every 1.5 years because his bargain old technology becomes outdated :-). But nooooooooo, LCDs have washed out colours, poor motions, little contrast, blablabla. Strangely more and more people on here are disagreeing with him as well... Hmmmm
 
Between FHD Plasma, and FHD LCD at a roughly LOW price bracket, I'd probably take the plasma...

But between HD Ready Plasma and FHD LCD.. its no contest.. the LCD will win the money from my pocket.

I currently have the 46" Series 5 LCD and its a beaut, and I know it will serve me for a good few more years before I have to contemplate upgrading to take advantage of any new technologies out there.... whereas HD Ready is already unable to display BR's at their best... why the hell would I spend money on something that can even display BR's at their native resolution?

And that's exactly why I also bought the 46" LCD. Wouldn't have minded a FHD Plasma but definately not a HDReady one. Especially knowing that the new consoles which fully support FHD will come out next year or so

"Worn out", like 720p plasma and your supposed "ancient" and "outdated" argument? Bollocks. Distance factor is straight from the mouths of AV companies/researchers/standards setters. Google it. More people on this forum buy plasma than LCD, because of their needs which do not include 1080p; their needs are the best PQ for their buck. Like I said, if you need 1080p you need 1080p... Go for entry LCD over entry plasma then... But most people don't. I disagree with selling them a higher resolution but lower PQ screen based on the future. We know right now that 720p is going to be around for a very, very long time, especially when it comes to HD TV. And hey, even if you're playing 1080p media on a 720p plasma, it's not such a biggie - like others have said, 1080p looks better to them on Series 4 720p plasma than Series 5 1080p LCD, and they cannot tell a difference in terms of resolution... Whatever. Give me a room in the evening and a Series 4 plasma and similarly sized Series 5 LCD and I bet you I would sell more Series 4 plasmas. I do own both Series 4 plasma and Series 5 LCD, so I think that counts for something...

Correction: entry level LCD. Like your and my Series 5 LCD...

Please point out on which points they are disagreeing? Pretty sure I only see debate about the resolution argument...

No one who knows HD TVs would ever say entry level LCD has good colour/black/motion. If they do, then they don't know HD TVs, nor have they compared directly vs entry plasma...

If you need BR/1080p, I have no problem taking entry 1080p LCD over entry 720p plasma.

I acknowledge the "future proof" argument as well.

Wow, busy watching avatar 1080p source on my 720p plasma, unbelievable... Oooh look at those shiny Bright colors..... Iv tweaked my settings to be just perfect for me. I just re fell in love with my tv all over again. Sorry, just had to brag :)

Avatar on a plasma is awesome! Also 720 hd ready nogal! I love da colors on my plasma compared to a lcd. It comes down to personal choice. That is all.

I would be interested to hear what it's like on your entry 1024x768 720p HD Ready plasma, compared to your higher end 1920x1080 1080p Full HD plasma.

I accept the resolution may be noticeable, but how about colours and blacks etc.?

Plasma colours tend to be more natural and accurate. How anyone could develop personal choice to not like that, and rather take washed out overly contrasty colours of entry LCD, is beyond me. :D

Entry plasma colours seem to be more dull and dark with the display being completely pixelated. How anyone could develop personal choice to not like that is beyond me. :D

Clearly never owned an entry plasma and has made all judgements in a massmart store under blaring shop lights. No wonder you think your entry LCD is the best. Shame. ;)

Also why would I think its the best? Its not, how can I say a 8k TV is the best there is, that's pathetic. Its a damn good TV in that price range and offers amazing value for money. If you want the best get a 60k 70" Panasonic Plasma, a 50k 60" Sony LED, or almost anything with a price tag of 40k or more.

I own a 32" 5 Series, and I've spent plenty of time in front of a 40" 5 Series, inside someone's house, to know which is better at <720p.

I don't know why you would interpret my saying of "best" to mean you think it's the best in the business. I know you have more grey matter than that, PAL.
 
Guys enough now, this is about bargains not discussions on which is better, that should never enter this thread at all. It should be about people posting great bargains they've found for any of the techs. Keep the arguments in the General Plasma and LCD thread. Each tech has it's benefits and each person has their own minds to make up.
