Guys....

How about a moderator to keep the posts to something like this:

Model Vendor Price

And nothing else...it is the 'LCD and Plasma Bargains' thread after all

+1
i have asked this earlier in this thread, but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears....

It makes sense... I vote for you two to become moderators!

Showed you a 50" FHD plasma with AR for R10,000.

No high-end LED-LCDs, 46"+, for R10,000? Thought so.

Don't try, you can't.

Last year's model doesn't matter, will still whip any LED-LCD, 46", ±R10,000.

Exactly like we have a 3 year old A range plasma whipping a brand new D range LCD.

Shows the lengths people go to defend their purchases IMO.

Well, heres one - Sony 46EX500 for R10k (also last years model), like the 50C550.

We've tried, but you always get a random/newcomer joining in and bringing up discussions other than bargains and then the debates start.

Most forumites who've commented on this say they actually enjoy the debates, as they learn new stuff.

My vote is to amalgamate bargains/discussions into one thread.

There's nothing stopping anyone from making a post at any time about their budget and needs. They will get the same advice. ;)

Think about it please?

I find the reflections problem on the new plasma to be slightly overstated. I use a Samsung PS51D550 in a moderately bright room and found the reflections not a particularly big problem. Especially not compared to my previous PS50C550. The only problem I found was flickering while using the 3D glasses with light from in front.

Exactly - it is all a matter of opinion... No TV is perfect... LCDs and Plasmas have pros and cons - you have to decide what you can live with :) I couldn't live with the 51D550...

+1 and especially not in the sub 10k price range!

In the context of my and Roman's discussion, it was relevant. ;)

What I mean is that specifying that the TV must be LED should not have been done when trying to find a TV that compares the 50C550 in price and picture quality - i.e. why limit the search to LED backlit screens? The aim was to find a competitive TV.

I agree.

Thank you for all the replies here!

I promise to give the Samsung PS51D550 another look, but I really thought the LED looked exceptional.

At the end of the day you must be happy :) Just buy from a shop that has a good return policy in case the TV doesn't work for you... Testing properly in a shop is very difficult.

Any 7 Series will look exceptional...

And by look we mean test, i.e. testing different media and fiddling with the settings with the remote...

Please share the price? 40" 7 Series LED, yes?

The 40" is R13000 and 46" is R19999 - at Tafelberg Furnishers.

Eish... A third of the price more than the PS51D550. :erm:

Did you not find 40" a bit small?

Also check if they have any C6000/C7000 plasmas to show you, that would be fair...

I agree, definately look at the PS51D550 but keep in mind the reflections and that its 50/60Hz. So if you're a perfectionist when it comes to those things maybe also have a look at the 6 Series LEDs and a PS50C6/7000. The differences between 6 and 7 series LEDs isn't too big except for the external design. Unless you can't live without the apps on the 7 series.
