No he didn't. Try and read a bit better. ;)

Were you that excited to reply? :D

Seriously? What's your problem? Sounded like he bought it, I said enjoy it. No need to get your panties in a knot

Its not something I would buy personally either but you can't argue that its a nice TV. Whether its overpriced or if there's better value is a different story.

At that money I personally would also recommend either a 46" Series 5 or 6 LCD/LED or the PS51D550 depending on what the needs are.

Can see it a bit on faces depending on lighting.

Am struggling to see this, have watch a few tee shots landing.

Watched a medal ceremony, pretty similar to golf, few people moving against a green field backround, and I can't see any ghosting/smudging here?

EDIT: Just watched a javelin being throw and there was no noticable corruption or any kind of trail on it (easy to see it rotating in the air).

Well this comes to my overall point. We're knit picking at variance from absolute perfection in FHD sport motion in reference to budget R5K+ 40" set. For the price I am not expecting absolute perfection, are you? Alternatively what do you believe would better in the R5K-R6K range, taking into account some wouldnt want to sacrifice FHD for non-sport application.

I have compared blu-rays at 1080p and 720p and the difference is much less obvious than these motion artifacts.

Also I can't tell the difference between 1080i and 720p sports on this 40" screen at 2m viewing distance in terms of resolution.

So I would gladly sacrifice the Full-HD capabilities for the better motion handling of entry level plasmas such as the 4-series Samsungs. They are 3" bigger too.

Only drawback of these plasmas is the reflections you might have depending on the lighting conditions.

That is a 7 Series LED-LCD... You were comparing with either a 4 Series or 5 Series plasma which probably costs nearly 1/3 / half, while still 10"+ bigger...

No one ever said a 4/5 Series plasma would beat a high end LED-LCD, such as in the comparison you've incorrectly made.

And of course SD TV will appear better on a smaller, high end LED, simply because it's high end and 10" smaller so less distortion! C'mon, think...

Compare apples with apples. Look for a 6 Series plasma, then we talk. Although once you've seen it, I'm pretty sure you'd be too embarrassed to show your face. :p :D

I can compare apples with apples, take my other plasma PS50C7000 which sits in my living room, the quality of that plasma compared to the mid range model that sits in my room is almost negligable, if u can spot the difference then kudos to you. I on the other hand cannot, the only difference is the features. There is only so much the naked eye can see and be able to distinguish differences.

The plasma that sits in my living room is FHD and again I say, I cannot tell the difference.

Full Hd vs Hd ready, that's still debatable, I have yet to tell the difference especially on a 40inch and from my viewing distance.
Yes distance plays a part, but if your eyes cant discern the difference between > 2 million pixels (1920x1080 FHD as displyed by 1080i DSTV HD or 1080p Bluray) vs. < 800K pixels (as displayed by a PS42/43 plasma) at reasonable distance, then you may have some vision issues.

The whole point (wow factor) of hi-def is sharp/finely detailed picture that looks life-like, but the PS42/43 can only display a dumbed down pixelated version of this with their limited 1024x768 res panel, more akin to an enhanced SD CRT picture. All well & good if that all you want, but you can't compare the PQ to what a high-end LED like the C7000 can display.

200hz vs 600hz, hmmm, I wonder which one is better..

Thats not how it works, you're not comparing apples with apples, see here ...

So much aggression, jeez.

Tim, sorry to ask again dude but I lost those settings you posted a while back with regards to PC hooking up to TV and getting the best picture.
Currently have a DVI -> HDMI cable (only need video so its cool) and its hooked up to my LA40D550. It looks amazing already with crisp text but you know little tricks of the trade :)
If you wouldn't mind helping a brother, would be much appreciated.

Please don't blame me for your lack of comprehension. :D I was giving you the benefit of the doubt in assuming you had read correctly. :)

One with experience with TVs can easily tell why the OP has/had the opinion he has/had, combined with the obvious fact he was comparing a much higher end TV with a lower one. It is a lovely TV indeed, but about 3x the price of my 2" bigger plasma (PS42C450 42" 1024/768720p which I use for SD & HD TV (mainly sport), SD and 720p rips and a few 1080p rips).

Definitely agree on a bigger LCD and the Series 5 like yours might suit the OP when set up correctly, and save him 1/3 of the cash.

No problem. I'll check for you this evening. In the mean time, what are you streaming from your PC. I found different settings work best for games, SD content and HD content.

Dude, first thing to do when using a PC is under Source List rename the port you're using (HDMI1) to DVI/PC. This disables overscan, puts pixels in 4:4 mode (or is it 1:1 Roman?) and locks certain settings. Looks identical to a PC screen, except with much better colours and viewing angles. My LA32C550 is bliss. :D

Watching media is very pleasing when locking the screen to 24fps via your graphics card's settings (was easy with ATI CCC). Thanks who ever mentioned it.

To some people best possible quality is very important though. There are tons of people who prefer a 40" high end model over a 46+ low-end/min-range. I am not one of them :)

At the price range the OP is looking at a 6 Series LCD/LED/Plasna becomes an option too. I think when you go into the 12k+ range it all boils down to preferences. All TVs, no matter which technology are great. Some offer a little better value, others more size. But when you can spend that much you get whatever you personally think looks best. Some prefer the LED look, others the Plasma. In that price range I would personally look at a high-end plasma first but it would be a very very tough decision.

okay rad thanks. I mainly use it for HD/SD movies/series, web browsing, maybe games in the future but i have a PS3 so doubt it. shot PP will have a look at renaming and also locking the fps.

At the end it boils down to what you want. Are you willing to sacrifice FHD + some really cool features to get a great tv that has awesome picture quality that will cost you much less. Or do you want to spend massive amounts of cash getting FHD + all those nifty features. Me personally, I would gladly sacrifice FHD + features and go for a mid range plasma that is almost equal (visibly) to a higher end tv.

I do agree about the reflections on plasma's tho, they are definately noticeable if there is a lot of light. However, if you are someone like me, who only watches tv with the lights off, then reflections are not a problem.

I actually found that 1080p stuff from your PC looks best when the input is set to bluray. Set the TV to screen-fit to enable 1:1 pixel mapping and the output to 24p (that was me who discovered this by the way :) ). The difference to PC DVI mode is small though and PC DVI definately works better for games.

If you watch a lot of SD then label the input as DVD or Bluray. Screen-fit, output at 24Hz (except for browsing and games). I'll check the rest later

ah okay. Are these settings on the Tv itself except for the 24fps.

Working on the PC looks best using Bluray? Or only media?

Yes.

Don't know, I don't use my TV for working or browsing or any of the like. Pretty sure though that in such a case DVI PC with 60Hz will work best.

The reason I put mine of Bluray setting when watching movies from the PC is that input lag doesn't matter (as it does with games) and it enables me to change all the settings so the TV is able to do some post-processing. I find this especially beneficial when watching SD or DVD quality movies.

Well I suppose each to their own.

To me hi-def is defined by the sharpest/most detailed picture avaliable, which is perceivable to me from 2-3m on a 40" in enough scene types/applications to matter. The few minor motion related anonolies (feed/signal processing related) dont phase me enough to be an issue.

I also believe the TV should fit the environment, not the other way around. Why should I have to shut out the nice warm sunlight on a cold winters day just because my TV cant handle it.

+1
