No such issues on my end using my PS3 as a Bluray player to my C530. Are you sure the Bluray player was setup optimally? Best/native output should be 1920x1080p@24Hz (over HDMI).

And what was the issue; (a) artifacting=pixelisation type corruption or (b) judder=percieved frame rate stuttering?

If (a) then it could be scaling circuitry issues. To avoid run your D550 in 1:1 pixel mapping mode to ensure it does no scaling, Picture Options -> Size-> Screen Fit (not default 16:9). If (b) then the TV maybe incorrectly applying the wrong cadence correction algorithm. Trying changing Picture Options -> Film Mode, for me Auto2 works best.

When it's moving over something relatively quickly it's not smooth. I noticed when looking at a 100Hz / 200Hz at the shops that there was none of that.
It is 1080p over HDMI, will look at the other settings.
Like I said, I can't use a CRT monitor (at 60Hz) so maybe it's just me.

Shouldnt come into play, optimally Bluray players should be outputting at 24Hz, to match the original 24fps movies are shot at. If 50/60Hz are used, it can introduce judder in some scenes as 50 or 60 are not cleanly divisible by 24.

Yes relevant, most people arent as mindlessly besoted with a panel technology to ignore all other practical aspects of owning a HDTV. Spending this kind of dosh, I would find it unacceptable to live with serious drawback of the two FHD models you're punting;

PS50C550 - find one of the few clearance units and pray that it doesnt turn out to be a loud buzzer. Then live with worry that motherboard has a high chance of packing in within the first 6-12 months.

PS51D550 - excile oneself to the batcave to enjoy one's TV

In the mean time I'm watching the GP in full 1920x1080i HD clarity with the curtains open on my full height north facing windows shining straight on to the TV's screen with little effect.

Samsung LA40C530. You might be lucky enough to also find one that's been sprinkled with fairy dust. They're especially good at sport/motion handling!

Hunt around, its not hard e.g. I've seen LA46C650 (100Hz) on clearance specials for R7500.

No fairy dust neccessary, just a good understand of how the technology works (what effects setting have on your picture), in order to set it up optimally (both source & display devices). No artifacting corruption or panning judder on my picture watching the GP.

No amount of understanding of anything will make the LA40C530 display sports properly. I have one and let me tell you it sucks at anything like cricket, golf or tennis.

Watch all of these myself, and while not perfect, they look very acceptable to me with no serious issue unless you want to get anally knit picky.

Of course this can vary greatly depending on what your setup & settings are like, care to describe yours and articulate what exactly your issues are? Also as reference point what doesnt suck at sport & why?

My source is the HDPVR.

One of the issues I have are balls, especially golf, leaving trails behind them.

Then for instance when a camera is zoomed in relatively close to a players face and his face moves up and down as he walks, his face sort of stays behind an smears.

I can clearly identify this on 50Hz LCD sets, much less pronounced on 100Hz sets and completely absent on plasmas and my DLP projector.

I used to only watch TV on my projector until my flatmate bought this LCD. So we watch on the LCD during the day and PJ when it is dark.

MY setup:

PS3
Denon AVR2311 Receiver
B&W 685 theatre 5.1 speakers with ASW610 subwoofer
Samsung LA40C530 LCDTV
Optoma HD67 projector on 92" screen.

I have tried all the output options of the HDPVR, doesn't make much difference, also bypassed the AVR to rule out any extra processing it may have on the signal.

I tried various calibration setting from avsforum.com and avforums.com which drastically improved the overall picture quality, bit does nothing for the poor motion handling.

One of my friends bought the same TV and told me he was having the same issues, I recommended that he returns it for a plasma and he is much happier with that.

My standard settings are those, except shadow detail was at -1.

Will test later on -2 tonight when the golf starts.
