It is when watching Full HD. Not everyone watches sport (for them plasma is evidently better).Expected.

Yeah but all the D550 LCD owners (and other 5 Series owners) are raving about its motion handling at sport...
Depends whether one prefers higher res and lower PQ or lower res and higher PQ... Also high res isn't as important when sitting far from the TV like most people do...

From my experience the differences are minor, with each TV type having slight edge in certain areas.
The A410 would be downscaling the (default) 1080i HD signal to either 1365x768 (PS50) or 1024x768 (PS42), while the D550 can display it natively without alteration, therefore should be providing a generally higher fidelity PQ.
Yes, the plasma will have the edge on motion. On my C530 I did notice some occasional motion distortion, but the occurances are so brief/bursty that by the time you notice it, its over. Even then it looks as if this is due to signal scaling/processing glitches in the decoder or TVs circuitry, not really anything to do with panel technology.
sandmanm34, maybe you need to tune your settings a bit more to get the optimal picture out of the D550?

It doesn't handle motion well - just saw yesterday on LOTR Extended Bluray that the motion over maps etc wasn't all that great. I guess it is only 50Hz after all.
I think it's fine for some people though. I can't use a standard CRT screen as I see the flickering and I get a headache within a minute or two. Same in the PnP Hypermarket stores.

No such issues on my end using my PS3 as a Bluray player to my C530. Are you sure the Bluray player was setup optimally? Best/native output should be 1920x1080p@24Hz (over HDMI).
And what was the issue; (a) artifacting=pixelisation type corruption or (b) judder=percieved frame rate stuttering?
If (a) then it could be scaling circuitry issues. To avoid run your D550 in 1:1 pixel mapping mode to ensure it does no scaling, Picture Options -> Size-> Screen Fit (not default 16:9). If (b) then the TV maybe incorrectly applying the wrong cadence correction algorithm. Trying changing Picture Options -> Film Mode, for me Auto2 works best.

I just bought the samsung plasma PS43D450 and im loving it. Even tho it's only HD ready, the picture is unbelievable. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between hd ready and full hd, considering the distance im viewing at. It was the perfect purchase for me and it only cost me 5k

Yeah they do provide a great/fluid picture, but this comes at a heafty price premium, especially if you want a model with a non-glare anti-refelctive screen.
When you get into that kind of money, I think the latest high-end LEDs will match/exceed the PQ/motion of FHD plasmas without any of the baggage (e.g. temp image retention, buzzing, general reliability).

Last years model, of which you may find a few units in stock clearance fire sales. Kinda makes sense why they would have some left over, from what I've read not the greatest of sets, prone to buzzing & high failure rates. Owning a hi-def TV should be a pleasure, not an exercise in frustration.

The reality is if you want a high-end, latest-gen, quality, non-glare FHD plasma, your choice is limited to the newest Panasonic G or V series or the Samsung D6900/7000/8000 (special import cause they're not officially imported). The models sit in the R16,000-R20,000+ range and you will easily find current model 46" LEDs for that price e.g. UA46D6000/D6400/D6600.

I take it the Super 15 final was being watched in HD. Was resolution a problem on the plasma?
I think not. Goes to show folks, a 1024x768 plasma beating a 1920x1080 LCD at 1080i content.

Or the other way to look at it is the most expensive 51" mirror on the market cost just over R10,000.
