Hi all

Some generic or specific advice would be appreciated.

Both sammy's, which one to choose?

46' 3d led, model ua46d7000

Or

59' 3d plasma, model PS 59d550.

Will use it for dstv, gaming and bluray.

Any thoughts? I'm leaning toward the plasma, plainky due to size, but a logical guide will bbe appreciated...

Both models should provide a fantastic picture (should hope so for the price).

The determinant for the size should be viewing distance, remember its the same 1920x1080 resolution no matter how large the screen is. If your viewing environment will be < 3m 46" should be fine, if 3m or more a larger screen would be beneficial.

Some other things to look out for. The D 5 series plasmas have no anti-reflective coating so the screen is mirror like, reflecting almost everything. Make sure your viewing environment will cater for this otherwise the reflections can get rather irritating.

The D LEDs are edge-lit, meaning they need a perfectly flat screen otherwise they will not have consistent lighting. Samsung dont always get it right resulting in flashlighting (corners are brighter like a torch shining toward the center) and clouding (areas of greater brightness). I would check the unit before taking from the store.

D550 does have AR coating.

Well if it does, then its really piss poor. From my experience the PS51D550's screen has mirror like reflective properties.

The D 5/6 series LEDs arent far behind though, but I think the 7s should be better (havent had a chance to check them out properly myself). That said, LEDs can push out much higher levels of brightness so they can compensate for a bright environment with brute force.

Went to purchase the Samsung LA40D550 from game on Sunday and there were out of stock, every single durban store was out of stock they all got sold out on Saturday

However i did get a some sort of document sayng that when stock comes in i will get it at the same price. Only problem with that is the truckers strike, they dont really know when the stocks will arrive. :(

Does anybody have experience with this unit. LG 47LK530 seems to be quite decent on paper. Priced at R7999 at Makro. Its the new model as well.

120hz motion flow
Internet Tv (smart Tv)
Simplink

Sounds decent being 100Hz... Best to test both, I'd imagine the LG might be better since 100Hz panels usually > 60Hz ones these days.

So that was the D550 for R4999? Oh well... I'll just have to get off my lazy ass and jump at it next time it's on special.

I am looking for the best price in Cape Town, for the following two models:

Samsung LA-46D550
and
Samsung LA46C630

Anyone have any advice?

I'm waiting for the 6-series LCDs (specifically 46", and not LEDs) to drop below 10G's - any bets when we'll see this happen? Meanwhile, in answer to the above post, the best I've seen are the online shops - 46c630 R10200 at Nivo and 46c650 R10400 at technovision (not sure of diffrence between the two). I read earlier though that someone managed to get a 650 for R7500, perhaps on a clearance special - Wow.

I saw over the weekend Makro retailing the 46d550 at R7500 - very good deal IMO (ask Tim). Postman Pot also mentioned the 40c650 can be sourced for about 8G?, if so not bad either.

Thanks for the reply.

Just got the LA46D550 for R7299 :-) Gotta love price beat policies!
