Not a bad deal 40" is quite small though

Good TV but I'd personally go for a bigger CCFL-LCD. LED-LCDs tend to suffer from uneven lighting, light spots, etc. Look for a Series 6 46" LCD...

50" FHD plasma is also in your budget.

Looks like a great set (picture/features), been eyeing out the 46" myself. Warning though, these new edge-lit LEDs require a perfectly flat screen, and it seems Samsung's qc hasnt been up to scratch. Check out this thread ...

As indicated, I'd take a flashdrive with 1920x1080 pure black .jpg on it, to check for any detects in-store before taking a particular unit.

Im about to pull the trigger on a television this this weekend, my mind is made up on either on the LCD or LED which will suit my needs, mainly going to use for xbox, and run hd stuff from my media player. Currently i have found these 3 specials.

Samsung La 40D550 (LCD) - R4999 at Game
Samsung Ua40C5000 (Led) - R6349 at House and Home
Samsung UA40D5003 (Led) - R6399 at Makro, game also has this special, Only one hdmi input though

That LED does look like a decent price but im not sure if its worth the extra 1300 over the LCD, plus its the C model which is last years model afaik.
The UA 40D5003 has one hdmi, and no dvi/vga in (bummer)
The UA 40 C5000 - 4hdmi inputs, Edge lit Led,however appears to last years model

So far im leaning towards the The LA 40d550, and ill save a bit of cash in the process what do u guys think?

Yeah, would also go with the D550. Have a C5000 at the office and I cant see any benefit compared to a 40" 5 series LCD.

3D is going nowhere. The available content just needs to improve. I have quite a bit of 3D content now and everyone I demo for is amazed at how good it can look on TV.

It depends what you've seen in 3D. Some stuff like Clash of the Titans is very disappointing but then Resident Evil, Avatar, Ultimate Wave Tahiti look awesome.

Again you talking without much hands on experience.

Is there a misprint in their brochure? Cause the LCD here for R4999 says it only has 2 x HDMI and 1 x USB.

The D550 is meant to have 4 x HDMI and 1 x USB, according to the Samsung site.

edit: Let me know, I might just go out and buy one too tomorrow :p

d550 definitely has 4 hdmi
