Don't have hd pvr though.
You need to get one ... you're seriously under utilising your PS51D550. The R1400 once off is worth it, and you dont have to pay the R65 multi-channel access fee for HD (will disable PVR functionality tho).

Yeah I'm going to but I'm going to stick to dstv compact. Do SD channels look MUCH better via HDMI versus AV? Can you connect an HD PVR with an SD PVR? Is it worth it going to HD PVR if you're not going to get the HD channels?

Some people are going to get pissed for this being in the bargains thread.

Difficult to gauge MUCH, but definately clearer & sharper. What actually happens is the HDPVR decodes/renders/scales the SD 576i signal to 1080i internally. So your TV is receiving a 1080i signal over HDMI for both SD & HD channels.

Yes [-]but then you have to pay the extra R65 p/m multi-channel access fee to enable Xtraview.[/-] EDIT: if you have a SDPVR (with more that one tuner active) you should already be paying for multi-channel access.

Is it worth it going to HD PVR if you're not going to get the HD channels?
Over the long run I would still say yes. Also if you ever change your mind (even if for a month during important event), HD is just a phone call away.

Then they must just be pissed off. I think its relevant/related ... for me HDPVR is a bargin, allowing you to utilise the full potential of your expensive HDTV.

Thanks will get it. Just to find a reasonably priced installer.
If you have a SDPVR, then you should have a dual-LNB with two cables coming to your SDPVR?

If so and the two decoders will be next to each other, you can DIY pretty easily, just buy a 2x4 multiswitch kit inc 4 F-type cables (got mine from Makro) + one extra F cable for heartbeat between the two decoders.

Then call MC to talk you through Xtraview activation.

Sounds like the new Sammy plasmas have a serious issue with reflections. Heard a lot of ppl complaining. Not cool.

Budget: R3000
Max size = 32" (must fit into an existing unit)

Best buy?

Guys have mentioned the Samsung LA32D550 for R3500; slightly over budget, but maybe worth checking out.

Otherwise someone has also mentioned some LG 32" (FHD) for R2999. You'd have to trawl the threads here to find where, though (sorry, I'm not lus to search).

And don't skimp on installation either. Will save yourself time and hassles later on with a proper install. HDTV can be be a temperamental bitch if not done properly.

So I can't just unplug my SD PVR, connect the HD PVR in it's place and hey presto?

+1, a must have especially for sport.

There is a 32 inch Hisense going for 2799 at hifi corp so there is that option.

They should have the LA32D550 (R3,499 is Game's price) and LG equivalent too. Test all 3 but fiddle with the settings. Buy where ever is cheapest.

Not a popular choice but there were those 37" Telefunkens going for R2999 as well, Game was it?

EDIT: Oh sorry Mickey said strictly 32".... :o
