Plasma is FHD, wins at everything except power consumption (a few dosen R's extra per month) and reflectivity.

Much of a muchness these days.
The feature equivalent LED to the PS51D550 would be the UA46D6000 which has a slightly smaller screen but adds 200Hz Clear Motion Rate & the Smarthub Internet features. It's a bit more expensive, but if you're willing to forgo 3D & drop down to 100Hz, UA46D5500 is bit cheaper than the PS51D550.
Its then down to PQ preference, personally for me the LEDs have a sharper more vibrant picture. The Plasma's colours seem a bit duller and there are the other peculiarities you may encounter if unlucky e.g. buzzing & seemingly higher failures rates. As far as reflectivity goes they're pretty close, the newest Samsung LEDs are also very relective which is off putting for me.
I were upgrading today, not sure I'd be sticking with Samsung, would check out what the Sony EX x20 range is like.

If only it was that simple!
Things to take into account:
* Silence - Plasmas tend to buzz (every one that I have used)
* Reflectivity (as mentioned)
* Sensitivity to flicker and rainbow effects on plasma
* Image retention could be an issue for some

Yep, I specifically looked for a CCFL backlit screen - the older Sony's have very nice matte screens

I am very keen on getting the 51" Samsung series 5 I'm worried that its because its only 50mhz it will still ghost and that the 600mhz is a gimmick.
Also been looking at the 46" Samsung series 5 LED(100mhz) or the Sony Ex5 46"
Using a HD PVR, can get basically all the tv's for R12000, watch sport and movies

You won't have motion lag. That's why people buy plasma for sport.
Sony will be good, personally I'd take the size of the Samsung.

Not actually sure the PS51D550 is 50Hz. While there is nowhere I can find that specifically states the engine (DSP) is 100Hz, logically it must be able to produce 50 fps for each eye in 3D. Assume same for D490 but not the D450, would account for the price difference between the two.

I got it yesterday, haven't experienced any ghosting yet.
I agree with this reasoning.
Oops, I started something here. My plasma was 24k. I also have a pretty high end LCD. Also so had a 6k sinotec that we won.
The plasma kills both the lcds on every level. My bro has a high end Sony yet he still prefers my plasma. Guess what he is
buying next.
Don't take my word for it. Look for display mates tests of plasma vs LCD and see for yourself. As someone who has both I
prefer plasma hands down. Even though my plasma is two years old, I still have seen no high end LCD with better pq than it.
I know it's personal opinion but that last statement of yours is completely incorrect in my opinion of course.

ok, but now the reflection problem, how bad is it really? In a room with not to much natural light

The key difference between my last post and the quoted one is non-glare anti-refelctive screen.
In the 10-15K range we're talking about reflective screens (Plasma & LED) without AR coating. To get AR you need to be prepared to pay for the high-end models like the Samsung D7000/8000 LEDs/Plasmas or the Panasonic V & G Plasmas.
I wont, was scrutinising the models mentioned in my last post 1st hand no more than 5hrs ago.

Depends on the person, most make it out to be worse than it actually is. Plasma favours a room with not too much natural light.

Well, that is only true for plasmas with anti-reflective (AR) coatings! Pretty much all plasmas used to (still do) have an anti-reflective coating - it is mainly this new entry level range from Samsung that are SUPER reflective, as they have removed the anti-reflective coating. To me, a plasma with a good AR coating is fine (Panasonic V series, 50C550, etc.) - still more reflective than an CCFL LCD, but not a problem.
So, when it comes to the 51D550, I don't think the reflectivity is over exaggerated. I was all set on a plasma - in fact I was totally against LCD... I didn't even look at LCD when I was shopping... and I returned the 51D550 mainly due to reflections.

I'm loving my 51D550. No problems with reflections in my lounge and the 3D conversion is awesome. Just concerned about the jumping pixels I see from up close and the flickering green pixels on dark backgrounds

No it's not only true for AR plasmas in my opinion. Perhaps in your opinion. It's up to the person and their room, direct sunlight, light and window positions, etc. A room with not much direct light makes the need for AR less.

Go test in the store. If it's the same then it's the usual up close fuzz part of plasma's operation. IIRC I also see green/red bits up very close.
