No it's not only true for AR plasmas in my opinion. Perhaps in your opinion. It's up to the person and their room, direct sunlight, light and window positions, etc. A room with not much direct light makes the need for AR less.
What I meant was that in my opinion your statement "most make it out to be worse than it actually" is normally when people are talking about plasmas with AR coatings. So I agree that the reflections aren't really a problem if a screen has an AR coating.
In my opinion is is totally ridiculous that Samsung SA only have the low end models available without AR coating!
Just for the record, when I make a post, it is always my opinion... just like your comments - they are just your opinion
