Are you adding vat to my price?

If so, then you're double adding vat.... I already add VAT to get to the R9k figure. (Granted I'm working off last months price list though)

I think my price list is recent.
 
Ahhh yes..... then your price is about right as well...

In a way its criminal to see the markups some people add on.. I've seen this set being sold for R13500 on some sites.
 
Hi guys, checked a special on a Hisense 40" FHD LED tv for R7999 a HI-FI co.
I am looking for a tv currently and wanted to know if any1 has this tv or has experience with this brand(good or bad).
My choice is between a Sony 40ex400 FHD LCD and the above mentioned LED.
Sony R7700 - Game
Hisense R7999 -HI FI
Which would you choose?

Well I've heard some good things about Hisense, but have you gone into the shop and taken a look? Both have 60hz and both seem to be pretty close spec wise, besides one being CCFL backlit and the other LED.

What will you be using your TV for?

The "LED" is still 95% the same as LCD and is actually called "LED-backlit LCD" - blame Samsung for the marketing gimmick hype in calling it LED. Basically only the edges are lit by LED. The biggest difference you will notice is that LED-backlit LCDs are slimmer in size, and your electricity bill will be negligibly cheaper.

At the lower end of the market where you are looking, picture quality will be very similar to no difference at all once you play HD stuff, especially because both sets are 60Hz and probably similarly-specced otherwise. The "branded" sets are usually trusted for displaying SD content better, like normal non-HD TV channels, ripped movies/series etc. because they have better image-processing engines. It is said that LED-backlit LCDs are able to produce deeper blacks, but under normal viewing conditions where there is some lighting, I doubt this.

I have heard a few good reports of Hisense with comments like "leaders of the lower end market" and "good for SD TV", but I have my doubts as with any "non-branded" brand, and people often need to justify their purchases. Best for you to do is to look at the sets side by side and even fiddle with the settings to see which one is better.

The EX400 is trusted though so it would probably be the better choice. More popular is the Samsung LA40C530 which I'd recommend, it also has a USB port that plays HD movies from flash drives/portable HDDs.

That's how he hooks them :-) also Hisense is not an unknown brand, it's not like Logik or Byd*sign or Pvision or whatever.
 
From the one's I've seen on the shop floor they look good, not seen anyone I know have one though.
 
Never heard of Sinotech, is it trying to copy Sinotec?

Hisense has been around for years too, I had a Hisense CRT in 2001. Also I've got a 42" Sinotec for the last two years and it's been fine touch wood, had a Samsung before that blew.

Got a new Sinotech 19" LCD TV here for small use. News channels are OK, sport is really bad. Same as the other low end brands basically - not good for SD stuff and sport especially, but generally fine for HD stuff.

Menus suck, too.
 
Thanks for the responses guys, gonna be using it for gaming PS3, Fifa10, Midnight Club, watching movies, sport(football) etc.
For some reason i thought the Hisense was 120hz and the sony 60hz?
Im going to view both tvs today once i got off work.

Then definitely add plasma to your list. Samsung PS42C430 at R6000ish or less. Will blow the others away at SD content and sport. 60Hz is a no-no for sport. Plasma has 600Hz. Which also means your gaming experience will be better, not to mention plasma's better blacks and colours at the lower end of the market than similarly priced LCDs. The PS42C430 is HD ready/720p and not full HD/1080p. But remember, 99% of PS3 games are HD/720p.
 
Wait you are going against your own freaking advice here PP, the dude is not watching SD or sport so therefore plasma is out of the picture he is playing games. So then the LCD's are fine, and no it doesn't matter if most of the games are 720p the GFX upscales the image to the TV anyway.

Postmanpot, you really crack me up :D I am still using antiquated CRT TV Samsung 72cm, and haven’t been in the market for a Flat screen due to affordability, although would love one. Stumbled into this thread and have been lurking, especially at your responses, must say you fight a really convincing argument at times. Nowadays, when im in Makro, Hi-Fi corp or Game and browse past the high-tech goods I always remember your posts, especially the flatscreen model numbers you always propose. I will certainly be back in this thread to seek advice when finances allow for a new TV, hopefully you will still be around here, keep it up :)

Hold your horses - how am I going against my own advice? Watching movies and sport = SD standard definition, where the plasma will especially shine. Hence it gets suggested. I did not say he should not consider LCD. I only that the picture will be better on plasma.
