Makro has an LG 42" lcd (42LF20) on special R7999. Anyone have model? Any experiences to share? It's much cheaper than the 42" Scarlett.. Anyone know why?

You quoted the model number...

EDIT : Oh wait, you were asking if anyone has this particular model not what model it is :)

Hi Guys,

I am hyper ventilating, cos I am not sure if I just spent R8700 (Discounted from R8999) on a decent plasma or not.

Specs:
FULL HD 50" Plasma
Contrast 15000:1
HDMI x 2
PC Connectivity
USB
Media Player Function
Brand: Hyundai
42mth Warranty

It was between this or a 42" Samsung LCD for R7999
But I just loved the size of the 50", and personally i prefer Plasma of LCD due to the true blacks and softer picture.

I connected it to a std DSTV signal using the AV connectors, but the DSTV picture or signal quality is crap.

I tested a DVD, and it is mesmorisingly clear.

I just hope that this Plasma is a good deal, the guy in the store says that it has a Samsung panel, and whilst I was there, 3 people purchased it in front of me.

I am not too worried about contrast ratios of 200000:1 cos I know that this is marketing hogwash..see here: http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/contrast-ratio.html

Has anybody purchased this Hyundai brand, and have any of you had any problems with it?

I purchased this from Deals Direct in Woodmead, Sandton.

Cheers!

Hi, Purchased the same unit today and baby HD pvr, cos nobody has Samsung in stock, same story from the guy, Samsung panel etc...
Seems pretty good on the Mnet and SSHD,
Didnt tune it as yet, but i noticed some lag on the moving pics but i didnt see it at the store when they had it on display
Is there a function that i need to put on to get rid of the lagging pic?
Thanks

Hi WGS, I didn't notice any lag on my plasma. I purchased a Samsung Blu Ray player yesterday. Popped in the Avatar blu ray disk, the 1080p resolution on the plasma automatically kicked in.
I can't even begin tp describe how awesome Avatar looks on this hd plasma unit!!! I didn't notice any lag whatsoever. Another thing that impressed me, was that the unit handles super fast moving scenes with precision!
No more buyers regret for me...for R8799 I am super satisfied with this purchase.

@WGS, maybe check your connection to th HDPVR, I have mine connected to my LG HD Recorder via HDMI, and no lag. I don't have a DSTV HD Decoder, so some channels suffer cos of the crap DSTV signal.

Hi Guys, please help me find a tele.. im looking for a 120hz TV around the 40" size and my budget is R12k. Is this possible?

Yes, very much possible. DionWired had not long ago special on the 40" 200Hz Sony KLV-40Z550 for R12000. In SA the TVs which are advertised as 120Hz for NTSC are capable of only 100Hz.

• SONY® 46EX500 46" Black LCD TV –
• Bravia Engine3, FULL HD 1920x1080,
• 4x HDMI, 1x USB, 120Hz MotionFlow,
• PC Input, Digital Tuner

anyone have this model?

Remus, would check with the store, the EX500 has the old bravia 2 engine in it. thats why it is cheaper. the more expensive 46 has the bravia 3 engine in it, if i remember correctly its an ex700 or the ex600. Ex500 may also not be 120hz. Makro has both, one is 5k more than the other.

Nope... both are Bravia engine 3. This EX500 is basically the old W series TV, very good.
EX500 is LCD backlit, EX600 and 700 are LED.
