Leaf Locate

First a big Thank You to Leaf for this excellent piece of software! I have been playing around with Version 1.1.0.0 on my TyTN2 since December, and I love it!

Some suggestions for you as requested, SupaSpud:
  1. Ability to choose whether to list stored locations by name or by date added. Currently just sorts capitalised names before looking at lower case, giving the appearance of no sort order.
  2. When a stored location is selected, it would be nice to see the name included in the balloon tooltip that appears on the map.
  3. Rendering Bug: Zoom in on Cape Town -- looks like there is a bridge joining Mouille Point to Big Bay Blaauwberg.
  4. Accessible GPS coords: options to display / copy to clipboard when clicking a balloon. Or get these from a tool on the toolbar. These can be emailed, stored, or looked up on Google Earth ;).
  5. When changing tabs between "Locations" and "Search", the map highlights should change to reflect the current context. At the moment, if there are any search results, they stay highlighted when selecting the "Locations" tab.
    2008-01-21: This is working now(!)
  6. How about a cache maybe? I can't seem to run the app when offline - always forced to incur download costs even for recently viewed locations.
  7. Ability to add links to locations. Either in My Locations, or in their balloons like phone numbers already appear. Eg: to a photograph, or a contact, or a web URL.
  8. When starting up the app, it would be nice to start off at the same location I was at when I last closed it. Or to be able to set my own "home" position.
2008-01-22: This can be achieved by exiting via the menu. But closing the app by clicking the "X" button doesn't change your next startup location.
  9. When upgrading to the next release, will stored locations be lost? If so, then it would be nice to be able to export (and import) them. Preferrably in an edittable format (tab-delimitted would be great).
  10. Some way to provide feedback on buggy maps: a link, or even just an email address. Accessible GPS coords (see above) would come in useful here!
Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback in this fashion! Hope this helps.

:)

Tytn II: Install LeafLocate?

Hi, just received my Tytn II today. :D I need a bit of help here.
If I go to QuickGPS it says "Valid time: Expired" ...surely this can't be?

I would like to use the GPS (just sold my Nokia E90 which had a pretty good GPS) also I can't find any GPS software on the phone or CDs.

I thought Navigon/Navitec would be on it?

I then downloaded LeafLoacte for PPC v1_1.
I copied the setup launcher to my Tytn II..but when trying to run it, it says "LeafLocate_PPC_v1_1 is not a valid Pocket PC application."

What's that about??

LeafLocate and Navigon

Got LeafLocate to work. Running the installation as Administrator did the trick.

Tried to register Navigon but it doesn't accept my Device ID;

Is Navigon Suppose to be preinstalled..cause I can't find it;

If not, anyone knows what the cost is and how it compared to Garmin Mobile XT?

QuickGPS still says "Valid Time: Expired"...I've only had the device for a day!

The "Valid time" refers to the validity of the data downloaded by Quick GPS. Just click the "Download" button and the latest data will be downloaded. You can automate this process by selecting the "Autodownload when data expires" check box in Menu -> About.

The TyTN II has what is called an AGPS (or Assisted GPS). The data downloaded by Quick GPS is used to "Assist" the GPS to fix on the current location quicker.

if you did not get a sd card with the phone you will have to buy navigon seperatly

Leaf

Thanks BEB and Beri; So does the QuickGPS only have a functions if you use Navigon and not with LeafLocate?

In a sense, yes. It will assist in getting a quicker fix in any application that makes use of the built-in GPS. e.g. Navigon, Nav4All, Google Maps, TomTom, Garmin Mobile XT, smart2go, etc.

It won't help for Leaf Locate since it does not use the GPS (not yet, anyway).

Installed Leaf Locate on my new Touch:D
And I am impressed?

Just a quick question (Not sure if i missed this)

Is it possible to save/store maps on my phone that i have already seen/downloaded? And can these be stored in a user specified location on my phone?

I understand that the servers contain the latest versions but if there were some type of update to stored maps that will be great.:D

Regards

Hi

Sorry to all for being so quiet of late. Thread went dead for a while so i stopped checking.

The map data is cached locally so that the same data does not need to be reloaded. It is stored in the application directory. You won't be able to use or see this data though...

Cheers

Wow Trids... Thanks for the detailed feedback. We've got another version on it's way. I think you'll like it.... uses touch flow.

Great! I'm looking forward to it .. Leaf Locate is one of my favourite PPC apps :)

Meantime - here's another suggestion/request: I notice that Yahoo also uses NAVTEQ maps, and they also provide satellite perpsectives; so I was wondering if it might be possible to toggle a satellite image under the map displayed in Leaf Locate? Sometimes a visual cue from a photo adds a little more information for someone finding directions than just a vanilla street map can.

Hi there,
just got my HTC fone and found this thread, the link on the Leaf site 'Download your free copy here' does not seem to jump anywhere..hit it about 5 times now and nothing happens..same for the rest of the page? any hints here pls?

I see there's a form there where you are asked for your email and cell number. I don't remember this being there when i downloaded my copy - just an option between Pro (for PPC devices) and Standard (for SmartPhones) versions.

Maybe you should call your local branch and ask them how to get it?

.. or be brave and give them your email and cell number ;o)

i downloaded it now on the phone. works great. you need a details only if you download on the pc

Well it's more than 6 months since 1.1.0.0 was released .. is Leaf still actively developing this project, or should we just give up on it?

There does'nt seem to be any development going on, I've been using Smart2Go for PPC for a while now... Mainly because it does'nt require an always on Connection!.
