Leaf Locate

There does'nt seem to be any development going on, I've been using Smart2Go for PPC for a while now... Mainly because it does'nt require an always on Connection!.

What version do you have? The only free download i can find is 1.1w from Aug 2007, and it says it's for wm5 (my TyTN2 runs wm6). Is there a more recent version someplace?

Can you get South African maps for it?

I've got 1.1w - Aug 2007, it installs fine on wm6. The maps are all downloaded of the Internet via your cell's internet connection (Cell Data Cost incurred) or your Data Connection via Active sync (No Cell Data Cost incurred).

when you're no connected to the internet, the maps stay cached, I've used it all over SA, and surrounding countries all well as in London.

The only downside is having to pay for navigation, but as a mapping solution it works quite well.

That's what people like me are around for :-)

Can you PM me your E-mail address?, I'll send you over the Version I have.

Here's an update I got from Leaf's Call Centre ..

Apparently they are actively developing Leaf Locate, and are intending to add GPS functionality to it. But no idea when, or pricing (if any).

Regrettably though, it seems I failed to convince them to keep in touch with their customer base: through these forums as they have in the past, or through forums on their own website.

At least I tried though!
:o

I wish Leaf locate would allow a "Download maps" option in their later releases... I had to switch applications to something that DID have downloadable maps when I was in london because I did'nt want to waste cash with data while there!.

Lost Locations in Leaf Locate upgrade

I use Leaf Locate quite often and have just upgraded to V1.2. During the installation I seem to have lost all my previously stored locations:mad: An email to Leaf elicited a response from a techie that "unfortunately there was no way of retrieving these". Having close to a hundred different locations stored I was not about to just give up so I played around with my TyTn and got the problem sorted out.

In the previous version the user defined locations were stored in the "Program Files/Locate/usr" subdirectory in a file called "LeafLocate_bm.bm3". During the installation the program installed to the same main folder but created a new "Program Files/Locate/usrAfr" folder. By moving or copying the "LeafLocate_bm.bm3" file to this new directory all the previously stored locations were available again:)

Hope this could be of help to other Leaf Locate users who upgrade.

I have noticed that the "Experts" at leaf are nothing even close to that word... if the problem is a small one - there is not way to rectify... if hte problem is a big one, they ask you for the device, and they WIPE EVERYTHING... that's not fixing... that's replacing!.

Hey, I'm just happy I got it fixed. The level of support does make you wonder though. But then old adage of you get what you pay for is very true (and not having to pay for the product I won't be pointing to many fingers....) It does what I want it to and if it didn't I would simply move on to another product.

Some of the new features I like is the ability to set via points when choosing a route and the new way of zooming. Now if only the "Find me on Startup" feature would actually work......

Actually, we already DID pay for it as part of the purchase of your device - it's available to ONLY leaf customers in reply to the complaint that Nokia maps was free on ANY Nokia device as long as it had Symbian S60V3... and the Support from Nokia maps is Amazing!.

I've upgraded to version 1.2 and don't like it. They completely changed the way you pan and zoom. You have to draw circles (gestures) to zoom in and out. And you can't drag the map anymore to pan. Stupid stupid! And you can't change the settings to use the old way. AArgh!!!@

Well the zooming i can get used to, but the panning is painful and very imprecise.

Worst of all, there doesn't seem to be any reliable way to provide this kind of feedback to Leaf. They don't seem to monitor this thread/board and they don't seem to have one of their own.

Makes you wonder sometimes if they're even interested in what their customers think!

Looking forward to giving this a go when I finally get my P3300. (yes I know it's an old phone but it's the only one available in my range :D )

I'm hoping that since I've never used the old version I won't mind the changes in the new one :D

@trids: I would think that representation from the guys who are making the product on the forums means they do care about what their customers think.

I agree .. but the converse is also true: The last input from them was 9 months ago if i'm not mistaken.

True, they DO offer input, but it's nowehere near often enough to actually be of any use! :-(

Yeah I see that it's a little bit old. Pity - I was quite encouraged reading the first couple of pages. As someone who is soon going to have an HTC device it'd be nice to know there are people around :D

Leaf have been quiet, only as a result of being very busy with development our new software products (Pinpoint - http://www.leaf.co.za/Leaf+Products/Leaf+Pinpoint/).
I can however assure you we are very interested in what our users/customers think of our software products and are always looking for ideas and ways to improve the next release.
This can be seen by our current competition at http://www.leaf.co.za/Home/ that will allow you to stand a chance to win a Touch HD by simply providing feedback on the product.

As the Product Development Manager, I will personally deal with all correspondence related to my software products from now onwards.
So please send feedback, issues and suggestions directly to me on through this forum.

Hi Garth .. and thanks for the good news about Pinpoint .. and the even better news that Leaf is keeping in touch with its fanbase :)
