Learnt my darn lesson with domestic worker

Life is too short to be cleaning... You forgot to mention ironing, do you do that too, and what about washing and changing linen?
Yes with the money I saved by just doing it myself I upgraded to a steam generator (a cross between steam iron and steamer). Takes only 20 minutes on a Sunday evening to iron now.

I pay R220 per day and a full bonus in December. My domestic executive is a very important person in my life. O also don't mind buying her things if she needs it.

I'm far to middle class to clean my house myself. I'll stick with sex, a great corporate job, good red wine and long lunches

Or the other solution is only buy easy care shirts and trousers if u wear them, t-shirts and denims don't require ironing

and here we have a problem of retaining our maid, first one who worked for us from june last year till march this year left because she was going to deliver a child. Next one left because we moved to a new house which was too big for her, next one come to work for 2 days and went MIA, next one dint like the fact that we checked her purse when she was leaving for the day , the next ones sister was shot after 2 days of work.
not only my family our relatives have the same problem here, we keep hunting for domestics. Honestly never heard from anyone I know here that their domestic was not ready to leave, it was always the other way around and we were asking them to come back but they switched off their phones.
Some people are just horrible to work for.....

Crimpele? Send us a photo of your best outfit,

That's a feelsbadman
Crap, I never thought I had to pay for unemployment insurance for her as she is a Zimbabwean. Never bothered with a contract in the believe one just has to be fair and all will be well. However after things dissappearing for years it just went from bad to worse with the quantity of things dissappearing escalating. I lady friend left a warm top at my house which disappeared. Domestic as always claimed innocence. Then boom, my friend arrived one day out of the blue on the day the domestic was working. She only told me after the domestic left that it was her, disappeared, warm top the domestic had on. Now I had proof and asked her to go.
I immediately got a threat of "I'm gonna phone my people and something is going to be done about this", this off course escalated into a very uncomfortable situation.
I offered to pay her for 3 months and she insisted on a long service bonus.
I eventually just got in my car and left.

Luckily I have legal insurance and was told to give a letter of notice with the date, signed by both with the amount of severance pay of 10 weeks.

Now I get a call from, I think the CCMA, wanting proof of years of employment, salary slips etc and a crapload of other stuff.

Little does she remember the day's she just couldn't come in due to going to home affairs, sorting out this, sorting out that. The double bonus in December's. The gas heater, prime stove etc that got given to her. Her nice Xiaomi phone, Samsung microwave etc I gave her as gifts. The flexibile hours of work, usually 830 to 12 or so.

Fk me what a lesson learnt. I have always lived my life believing what you give is what you get. So not. I'm just handing this whole thing over to a lawyer. I just can't believe it came down to this. Treating people with kindness, empathy for their situation and respect does not necessarily get returned.

I have already found another domestic, with a good reference this time. I have just finished drawing up her employment contract. I'm also going to draw up a list of duties and we will both sign these documents in front of a witness.

I'm not saying I'm going to be hard arsed from now one but school fees paid on this matter.

That's actually very affordable considering you taking on non of the direct risk...
It is not even the 'risk' ,but it just works well. Domestics are trained.the 4 Domestics all did things similar they way they clean, moving things around, getting a ladder to clean on top of things . They asked me for certain products if it was not in the house. What should they polish the furniture with . What must they use on wood. How do I want my bed made....etc. also instead of loosing their job when I client pulls out or asks for someone else, they get assigned somewhere else. Their attitude is also different, they are professional, if they have an issue they can take it up with their employer etc. They get leave and bonuses I believe. I don't know what their pay is like but the lady haven't complained yet. She also bring her own food and organise own transport. Man, she doesn't even answer her phone when it rings unless it is the company.

So even when the OP had proof that she stole the warm top, he couldn't report to the police and file a case of theft ??

you can try, but you generally get laughed out of the police station, apparently you let them into your house.
Two years ago I had a domestic take me to the CCMA, apparently being rude, not doing your job and ignoring the warnings is not a right to fire. I actually won and still had to pay R750 for the month of lost work sigh.
Been using Sweepsouth on and off since, it's nice to not have to worry and the house just gets cleaned, they don't moan, they don't drink all your coffee, milk, sugar or tea, they don't eat an entire loaf of bread, things don't go missing.

I had a call from an incredibly awesome woman from the CCMA today called Martha. I was wrong in my calculation of payment/settlement. I signed the document and paid the amount of R2240 on top of what i paid already. Broke by now but I also paid for my x domestic's trip to the CCMA as it was my mistake and lunch. It was a breakdown of trust and a pity that she threatened me otherwise i would have paid the bonus as well. Pilferarge is not on. I am privileged and thus I give and want justice for the poor.

Does anybody know how many hours constitutes a full day and how many half day? Had my domestic tell me today half day is 8:00 to 12:00. She works 8:00 to 2:00 and gets R200 per day.

Not that I'm haggling about money. She was getting R230 but today opted to drop her salary to R200 in return for not cleaning upstairs and leaving at 2:00. Refused point blank to stay later.

The decision came about when I asked why the house is filthy. As far as I knew we were getting a long fine, she enjoyed her job, I like her. How wrong I was.

It came as a HUGE surprise to me how resentful she is. She's clearly been stewing about several things and loathes coming to work . We agreed on the compromise mentioned above.

Now I'm stewing  if I don't get over it I might ask her to leave anyway.
