Lenovo Y5070

+1 And when would we be able to buy them locally? I need a lappy in 1-2 weeks max

They'll be available locally quite soon. I'll update details as I know them. But really if you're investing in a gaming notebook now you should be looking for something with GTX9xx. It's a significant update on the 8 series and it's moving into the pipeline as we speak. I'd really advise waiting for that to trickle to the channels before purchasing or you'll be a few weeks short of a 'free' upgrade.

Sorry for reviving this thread, the IPS version has landed.

Anyone care to comment? Friend needs a new laptop and the amount of graphics memory and the i7 make it a attractive choice considering its price. Using the laptop for architecture, I recommended she take the RAM upgrade deal.

Any other options available?

Thanks

I am super sad right now, laptop landed just over a month after I bought the y5070 from Takealot, would have rather taken the new one :(

I informed takealot about the new laptop that landed. About 2 weeks ago before the payday promo there were 13 units available all sold out in 2 weeks.. Already wootware had the nee one listed on their website

I think it's worth the money. The only downside is the HDD. Some people say it's a bit slow. But, it can be upgraded to an SSD.

The previous model had a bad screen and HDD. They fixed the screen, now it's just the HDD. If they get a better HDD or SSD then it's the best laptop for anyone on a budget.

Looking at maybe getting this laptop but I doubt the HDMI port will fully support my 144Hz monitor.

From several reviews , Y50's CPU seems inferior compared to others.

Has anyone benchmarked it yet ?

Please post the links of these reviews? That's concerning...

All the reviews I've seen focuses more on the HDD and screen than anything else. The CPU, as far as I understand, is the same i7 found in most gaming laptops in the price range.
