It's a subsidiary of a parent company called Dichaba Solutions (BBEE registered and all that), which makes really crappy websites and hosts them as well. Dichaba's been in business since 2004, if that makes any difference.

Kalahari - I know they are not the greatest, but their price beats everyone else's. Sad, however, that they are mum on the Ghost Pro.

On that Mecer, price is good, but the Clevo body doesn't suit me.

I still think as far as value goes, the Lenovo hits the nail on the head. (Even though it's not my personal choice)

I just got my y5070 from wootware, and the one I got has the new Maxwell (GM107) chip.

Most reviews complain about the screen quality, and although the screen is not great, it is definitely good enough for gaming. The speakers are exceptional, as is the build quality. All in all, I would recommend this for anyone who wants a gaming laptop under 15k

Just stumbled upon this thread. I bought my Lenovo Y5070 Maxwell GT860 4Gb version last week from Wootware and I can tell you it is one of the best laptops that I have had. The screen is really not that bad as people make it out to be. I didn't even know they said it had that issue as I didn't pick it up during use. Screen has excellent clarity and colour. The laptop build and casing feels almost completely metal so very high finish and durable look and feel. It is excellent value for money indeed and crazy fast. Strange enough it has a UHD sticker on it but since the GT860 only works with rendering and common use makes use of the Intel HD4600 2Gb onboard GPU I haven't really checked what they really mean as it is running on Full HD. Awesome laptop indeed. Get about 5 hours on one battery charge

Hmmm. I only get about 3 hours and the GS60s all have Keplers. However... The M.2 swayed me.

Sorry to dig up this few week old thread, but I also bought the y5070 from wootware recently.

So far so good, plays everything I throw at it fairly well (though that isn't much yet). I was worried about the screen from reviews, and while clearly not in the same league as some of the IPS/PLS panels in the recent ultrabooks, etc, it is definitely a good TN panel (at least mine is, i also heard they used multiple suppliers for this laptop's screen).

It also doesn't run too hot (longest gaming session was around 2.5 hours) and i didn't notice any heat but the fans were on in full force.

Anyway, I have a question that hopefully you guys can help with: I'm thinking of upgrading the hard drive to a SSD in a few months. I noticed the 1TB SSD's start to fall in price a bit, but on the official Lenovo y50 page it says it supports "up to 512 GB SSD". Is this a hard limit? Can it actually support 1TB SSD but they weren't prominent enough at the time of release? Could it be supported in a firmware update?

That's probably the highest shipping configuration they can do with striped SSDs (256GB each). So if you were in the US and were able to customise your Y5070 order, 512GB striped drives would be the highest-end option you could pick. You can stick larger drives in there, it won't be a problem.
 
Hi guys i also recently got my y50 it was built by NEC japan( it took 6 weeks :-O ) but the customer service with lenovo japan and us is really good. In Japan they only sell the UHD IPS version really happy with this laptop i will mainly use it for autocad,revit, max and photoshop as i prefer to game on console

ps: I got mine for a huge discount from lenovo(hence i waited so long) and got a free external bluray drive
if anyone has question give me a shout

ps. how long battery life do you get on normal use right now im struggling to get 4 hours
