Less-than-prophetic quotes in SA tech

The whole idea of measuring the success or failure of 'prophetic quotes' is to measure it against some time-frame.

The MTN quote had a specific date (December 2004) so it was easily measurable. For quotes without a specific time limit, you can only judge it once it is patently clear the original statement is now clearly false ("Computers will weight 1.5 tonnes", "640K of RAM is enough for everyone", etc.)

The "unsustainable" quote has not had enough time to be proved either correct or false.

One of my favorite quotes this year although I can remember who said it or at what convention or meeting it was said, but the guy said "Uncapped internet is just a hype, it is unsustainable. Capped Internet is the future not Uncapped Internet" & everyone in the comments section went on about how someone should please turn that moron around because his looking in the wrong direction he's looking into the past instead of the future. What makes this guys quote so bizarre is the fact that he said it 3, 4 months after uncapped internet was introduced in South Africa. If anyone can remember who he was or where it was said please add-on. Thanx

Matthew Tagg - WAMATT - WA - Webafrica Hahahahahaha - Knew this would come

When I saw the article I immediatly thought of WA. Tagg buddy, your infamous quote will live long in the hallways of this forum.

The only time required to measure this by is not if uncapped will be sustainable. It's when WA will launch their own uncapped product. :)

Actually, here in the uk capped internet is slowly becoming the norm. It just makes sense since the average user does not want pay for something they don't use, they'd rather a faster and more consistent speed.

Yeah, but then if we had 150GB+ caps we probably wouldn't mind either.

Was talking to UK friend recently. I asked him, what internet he uses. He replies, that he uses 30GB capped internet, because unlimited is too unreliable in his experience.

On topic: Expected WA's "Unsustainable" and Telkom's "Not in the spirit", too.

I can't find one perfect quote, but more or less anything that Telkom Media said before their demise falls into this category. Just Google it :)

The same goes for Super 5 Media, with their IPTV offering being their last straw. It was supposed to have started on the 1st of June just after TopTV had launched.

Hugest fail.
