Let's talk about Sci-Fi movies

It didn't feel like Superman. The action would be great for a DBZ movie.

It felt more like Superman than "Superman Returns" did. Action was brilliant, and what most fans were waiting to see in an updated live action film. There's only so many times I can watch Superman save a cat in a tree or foil a land scheme.

What makes it sci-fi? the silly hair and costumes?

Basically yeah, but don't forget the futuristic holograms, high tech battle arena and space ships. (seen in the latest one)

Hunger games is fantasy. not sci fi.

Even Star Wars could be classified as fantasy as there's zero focus on science. Star Trek completely opposite though.

I would call Hunger Games Sci-Fi.

Fantasy to me is like LOTR, like dragons and wizards and strange creatures, whereas sci-fi is more plausible.

Hunger games doesn't have fantastical beasts and super powers, just 'advanced technology'.

War of the worlds & Oblivion were mediocre at best...

War of the worlds was the shocking rape of some really classic IP. A part of me died when I saw it.

Oblivion was good but I always worry about how the scientologists are picking my brain when I see their movies.
Tom has made some good sci-fi in his day but I struggle to enjoy them with the overtones.

The Thing is superb. Apparently the guys in the Antarctic research station have a tradition of watching it after the last plane leaves as winter sets in.

They probably watch the 2011 version if they need to laugh though

Classic - Bladerunner. Changed how sci-fi could be made, still can't be beaten.
Recent - The Signal. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Starts slow and drags along, last 15 minutes make up for it.

Lol yes the action was great really enjoyed it. But I know Superman to put the lives of the people 1st, this one was smashing into everything.

But yeah to hell with people and cats I like this Superman better.

Both of those are 'leave your brain at the door' movies.
Although in Battleship when they start cranking out Thunderstruck by AC/DC while starting up the old ship....that made up for a lot

LOL, my favorite ACDC song and it made that old ship sequence very hardcore.

Criteria for Sci-fi: A story based in the real world where a plausible scientific advancement has resulted in a moral dilemma.

Hunger Games fits this definition perfectly, its set in the future where a group of people are able to control the rest of the population with their advances weapons. The games are the moral dilema.

Star Wars is a space western/opera... even though I do prefer Star Wars.
Its based in a fantasy world. Ewoks, Jedi's... sith... these are all fantasy concepts.

What I meant was compared to the ending the rest is slow. Main character has no idea what happened to him and neither do you watching it.
