LG KS360 Chatterbox

correction 29 games, pictures, videos 29 songs and all my contacts and only used 50% memory used.

i even bluetoothed games to my friends phone from my office through a brick wall into the factory where he stood waiting.
 
Great news - got mine today.

Game had a special on them - R1499.00 so I shuftied off for mine. Bought a 1Gb SD card as it wasn't bundled.

Interestingly, CellC also had the same phone for sale - at R300 more. So they lost.

And a big boo to the vodacrap branding - for now it's not bothersome, but I'll get rid of it eventually.

Feels nice and snappy, especially with SMS'es - my experience with Nokia phones (Symbian OS) is that they tend to lag a bit when you want to open your SMS folder... with the LG KS360 it just opens and that's that... this is the way a phone should operate, no lagging or molasses business.

Now... onto the applications :

Opera Mini

Best to download Opera Mini directly on your phone from Opera's site.

The keyboard does not work properly when trying to enter periods in an URL, and it will take some fiddling to get it to work. Hopefully they'll release a more compatible version soon.

Opera Mini works fine with the default settings, don't tick the "Landscape" option, otherwise your screen will go all funny :D

EDIT : the keyboard issue will be fixed if you use the edit function, the phone will switch to another screen where you'll be able to use the function, symbol and shift keys correctly.

Internet access

Somehow I managed to get my Internet access to work yesterday, now it won't work again today, and all I've changed is my wallpaper and a few other settings not related to Internet settings :rolleyes:

NOTE : Discovered only now that Opera Mini works 100% :o - the bundled vodafone live browser doesn't. :rolleyes: Ah well. I don't care about the built-in browser, as long as OM is working fine for the odd spot of casual browsing.

EDGE is faster than GPRS - if you've got EDGE coverage (CellC does) then you should be fine. For use with Mxit and Twitter EDGE connectivity and speeds shouldn't be troublesome.

Games

Haven't had time to look at other games or applications yet. The few demo games installed on the phone sucks. Pacman is nice, but come on, 59 seconds play time? What a miser... Sims seems to be a dog (not interested) and the others seems to be sucky as well. Pity you can't uninstall them. So you can just forget about the built-in stuff, these aren't worth wasting your time on.

Overall

Impressed with the responsiveness of the phone, as well as the camera. Night pictures is a no-no, but the camera got a couple of other settings with which you can play around with. Do remember to set the storage location to your SD card (if you've got one) otherwise your photos will fill up the 15Mb memory pretty quickly.

Connectivity

Bluetooth

Was successful in sending a picture from my phone to my wife's phone.

Also successful in uploading stuff to the phone via Bluetooth, and downloading them from the phone to the laptop.

Also, as stated before, there is no way in changing the Bluetooth storage location, it defaults to the phone memory instead of the SD card (if you've got one) so downloading files larger than 15Mb is a definite no-no.

Noted that while you are busy with something on the phone, you can't upload or download stuff, so this'll seems to be a single-tasking phone. (Which isn't a big deal with me at the moment...)

USB CABLE
Why is incoming calls disabled when plugged the phone in on the PC? (when not using the phone in PC Suite mode)
Nice to see it'll charge the phone tho, a big plus when using the phone as a modem.

MUSIC
The MP3 player works nice, haven't really played around with it, but you just dump your songs on the SD card, point your MP3 player at it, and start rocking :D




MORE INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR...

Skype - is there a version which will work?

Twitter - which client to use?

Mini word processor/spreadsheet (for those odd times when you need to type a long poem, letter or do some basic bookwork whilst sitting in a bus or taxi)...

And games... :D








Suggestions

Maybe get a bigger battery? Definitely.
And implement the touch screen function across all the application, not just the dialer. This is no big issue, but will make the phone much more useful.
Give more options with Bluetooth so that we can specify which memory it'll use (phone memory, or SD card memory) for file storage.
Flash for camera? Doubt if I'll need it.





NB - Why don't we start a new thread titled LG KS360 Chatterbox apps, games and information? So that the n00bs will know where to go when they want to know what will work on this phone.

Downloaded a couple of games, utilities/applications and other stuff... will give a report on what works and what not.
 
i just downloaded mobile google maps but it says something about data and i am on prepaid i think that it wont work.

Eeee-yep. I also check to see if the stuff I'm installing do access the 'net - although the phone will warn you beforehand.

Prepaid's nice - if something slurps up your bandwidth, then you just uninstall the offending craplication, and buy new bandwidth. Imagine if you're on a contract, and something slurps up your entire salary... :eek::sick:
 
yip been there and done that. i think i need to change my airtime to a data bundle for google maps to work so i will wait till i have some airtime to test it.
 
ha ha test away. you don't need that man go to that website i sent you there are choices galore.
 
It was about this time last year when we heard that LG was aiming to push out Android-powered handsets by 2009, and sure enough, it looks like it'll happen by this summer. According to T3, the company's altogether bubbly KS360 will be relaunched with Google's operating system, though the actual specifications (outside of the OS, obviously) will remain the same. Marketing Manager Jeremy Newing also confirmed at Mobile World Congress that LG would be releasing two other Android phones this year, though he wouldn't divulge any model names or favorite colors for us to guess.

Interesting. Wonder if they'll let you upgrade/install it on an existing KS360?
