Looking at the current market for the 6P, especially prices outside the US, I have a slight suspicion that the 32GB entry level device will retail in SA for around R10k to R13k. The 64GB probably around R15-R18k and 128GB around R20k to R30k.

Stock android is the best in my opinion. I have no issues on my 2 year old Nexus 5. Still runs flawlessly.

I have read a few reviews of the 5X, i think a big issue is battery life. Even with Doze, its been reported as a problem on several reviews. The other major complaint is the 2Gb of ram. Some people like the plastic build other don't. Apart from that, they reviews have been great.

The phone was just delivered. I still have to butcher my micro SIM to make it fit the nano SIM slot before I can test the signal and stuff like that. It feels quite solid for something that is mostly plastic on the outside but as I am going to use a cover/case the plastic is not of concern. Either way it looks like a quality finish.

Will take some pics tonight when I am at home. Managed to get my SIM to fit and I am happy to report that everything is working on the Vodacom network.

Some pics. Sorry I had already put the cover on the phone. Did not want to scratch it. ;)

Coming from a LG G3 there are a few things I miss but still I am quite impressed with this "baby" Nexus phone. One handed operation is much easier with the smaller screen size and the fingerprint reader is excellent (very quick). The USB-C connector is a bit of an issue with not much available in South Africa to connect to a PC but I am sure the cables will come. :whistling: Another thing to keep in mind with this imported version is the US style charger. Luckily the shop I bought it from included an adapter to make it fit our SA plugs.

How are you finding the Ram downgrade going from 3gb on the LG G3 to the 2gb on the Nexus ? Iv ready and watched a good few reviews online and it seemed as if the display was rather dim on the Nexus 5X when compared to some other devices in the same price range , what is your experience on it ?

I do not know if it was a better trade when you look at the LG G3 vs the Nexus 5X. He gave up on a lot more 'phone'.

There is a downgrade on RAM
Downgrade in camera quality
Downgrade in battery quality and life
Downgrade in storage expansion
Downgrade in display

The 5X only has a newer OS and one can only speculate on the processors. I think the person buying the 5X only does so for saying 'I have a Nexus'. (Not that many cares though). I think in that price range, the LG G4 could have been a better option.

The battery isn't a battery downgrade because the smaller screen eats less so they should last for roughly the same amount of time.
And the smaller screen also counts for a big power boost over the old phone.

I am a lite user when it comes to smartphones and the LG G3 was overkill for what I need daily. So yes it is a downgrade but I am not arguing that. However I do like getting the latest OS first for the next few years and that I have no bloatware installed. ;)

So to answer your questions. I find the that even with only 2GB ram the phone performs very well and on par with my LG G3. The lower resolution of the screen compared to my LG G3 is noticeable but I have not found it much darker at all.

What size did you get (16gb or 32gb) ? Do you perhaps remember how much free memory was available when you booted up for the first time ?
Iv read that some people have complained about the volume and power button being a little iffy , what has your experience been like ?

I had a Nexus 6 last year and must admit it was great getting the latest updates without having to wait for our networks to push them through and delays .

As I am a lite user I went for the 16GB version. Sorry I did not check how much free space was available when I first powered it on. At the moment storage shows as 1.74GB used of 10.67GB.

My buttons seem fine but then again they are covered by the case I am using, so I do not press them directly.

Thanks for the info , after being disappointed with the Samsung offerings this year and their aggressive RAM management Iv decided ill more than likely head back on to pure (or very close to) android with either one of the Nexus offerings or perhaps a Motorola . Hence the questions from my side , you can only get so much from Videos and reviews , sometimes answers from a normal user can go along way to giving a real world opinion on every day use .

No problem. I will report any issues that I do find. Before I bought my Nexus 5X I read about the yellow screen tint that some were getting and hoped that I would not have the same issue. Thus far all looks fine though.

Just got my 5X today, bought from Orange store, 32GB Quartz white. The charger threw me a bit, as I had to go buy an adapter, not sure what region the charger is for, but it's not like the pic above (3 square pin resembling a ZA plug, but definitely not one).

Now I need a case and screen protector. Any recommendations?
Also have't gotten round to hacking my sim to fit, though I think I'll rather do a sim swap- I'm on Cell C.
