LG Optimus P500

I am about to get myself one of the above mentioned.

The reason opted for the Optimus P500 is it's an entry level Andriod phone it has the right price point for me :p (cheap ass that I am). Now just before I go out and but this phone. I would like to know from other owners what are the downside and upside of this phone.

I have noticed some guys posting with this phone so I could really do with some help in this matter.

Hi bex.

My wife has an Optimus One P500, and it is a brilliant phone. There is nothing negative that I can say about it.

However, I opted for the Motorola Defy (Motorola MB525 in South Africa) as it is only a bit more expensive but overall it is much better. Larger screen, faster CPU, more RAM and larger internal storage. Well worth the extra in my opinion.

I own the p500. You have to install a custom rom if you want it to be a AMAZING phone. If you keep it on stock rom I would say its DECENT. The cpu needs to be clocked a bit to get that extra bit of enjoyment and that eats the battery a bit. That said show me a phone in todays life that doesn't eat the battery.

Awesome phone dude. I love it and won't sell it for anything. I sold my HTC desire and got a LG P500 and I love it. For me Simple is better. The screen is just the right size for the pocket.
 
Been using my LG Optimus P500 for about 2 months now - bought it at CNA for R1,700 ;-)

Thought I'll start with a cheapie to get to know Android and then go for the bigger hardware later

I am stil on stock rom and with a bit of tweaking and some awesome apps, I get an excellent Android experience - not in a hurry to get a higher spec phone.

Only problem I had, was constant rebooting until I changed the stock 2 gig Micro SD with a class 4 8gig - very happy with this phone
 
Just hope you don't get one with the same problem as mine. Every now and then you get "sd card removed" and random reboots. Searched the net apparently a few of them with the problem, sounds like "firmware" issue.

The Defy is quite a bit more expensive. If you want the defy, the LG Optimus 2x is more worth it since it is a dual core.
 
Well i have the phone and so far so good. Got it R1000 sweet bargain :p

its unavailable in this country unless you import it like I did, which means you need to pay cash.

Yip that was me. I seldom go to Durbanville (actually only been there ONCE) I hate it when I have to pack PAD KOS to get to destination :p They should really make a air strip there so I can take a flight every now and then :D
 
R1000 for a Defy is quite a bargain! Congratulations! Make sure you update it to a newer version of Android - can make quite a difference.

I plan to update to 2.3 and NO it's not a DEFY it's an entry level phone. I cannot get myself to pay R8000 for a phone with a Dual Core chip and 1Gig of Ram it's utter madness. A laptop is cheaper. :p what can I say I am a CHEAP S.O.B. :D
 
Sorry, I read your post as saying you bought the Defy for R1000. that would have been a major bargain.

Well... its R3000 for a Defy, but yeah that is 3x what you paid.

Well all I want to do is connect to social media, ask stupid questions on forums (like this one :p) check my email, and some mobile banking. If I wanted to wash my clothes and and dry it I will just ask my WIFE :D bwahahaha

Anyway I am happy with my purchase

Great to hear that. I'm also using a P500 and it's an excellent phone for the price.

What's a major bonus for me - and I don't ever see it mentioned in forums and reviews - is that it comes with the full versions of Thinkfree Office and Ndrive (1 free map), FOR FREE. That's a first now for an Adroid handset, and a mid-range one nogal!
