Lightroom alternatives?

Same here, although I'm mostly still annoyed that after all that hype it was just a lackluster V2.
It was such a lacklustre upgrade. The thing that annoyed me the most is they refused to sell me a license for v1 Publisher.

Even R50 is too much if it’s a POS?
The point is that it is apparently pretty much the case, well to the degree that it’s not worth any further investment, never mind dropping R2k.

Figured I'd download lightroom and give it another bash.

I'd trimmed down my active library so there are only 30k to 40k worth of images, mostly jpgs, so I figured now was the time. What I did not anticipate was my MBA cpu temp spiking to over 100°c and thermo throttling kicked in hard, so I had to take certain measures while the catalogue was being created.

Bwana,

If you have time and don't mind, please give some feedback on your findings. I am also considering giving Lightroom (another) go since version 6. I currently have DXO Photolab and the results are great, but I find that the workflow takes me ages to get to the final result. Maybe it's just a lack of knowledge as far as DXO is concerned, but I was hoping that I can find something which will speed up the workflow process. So, I am looking at alternatives.

Well, Lightroom is nice but it wasnt real game changer for me when it comes to quick edits that I hoped it would be. The whole import - edit - export was a schlep because I wasn't using it to manage my catalogues. That said it worked nicely for a large set of headshots I had to do so worth the sub.

The real game changer, and the reason I decided not to get a refund after my 14 day trial period, turned out to be PS.

It has several features missing from Affinity Photo - the ability to set white/grey/black points for example - but the one that cinched the deal was actions and shortcut keys to trigger them.

I can open a JPG in PS and with just three keystrokes lift the shadows, fix the green tint the stadium lights seem to cast this time of the year, correct the levels, sharpen, flatten, and save the image. Seconds compared to minutes in Photos.

Still hoping Affinity decides to tackle Lightroom though but I've got a year with Adobe now. I'll revisit Lightroom in more detail when I've had more of an opportunity to use it.

Off-topic, but relevant to the participants in this ongoing discussion. ON1 is giving away ON1 Effects this January.

There's also the 2024 upgrade to On1 Photo Raw but I'm going to give it a miss.

I want to check and see if they're still using their own unsupported iptc fields that really buggered things up for me last year so I might download the demo.

Thanks, Bwana. :)

I very briefly tried ON1 but the performance was atrocious. Was a while ago though!
