Lightroom alternatives?

Funny, it isn't unusual. I have loads of LTDs which are grandfathered. Companies are simply not growing sufficiently with a perceptual licensing model.
Makes sense from a software perspective. You never own something and they gaurenteee a steady income. Perfect business model.

But it kind of goes against the grain of serrif's "buy once, lifetime upgrades free". Won't surprise me though. Only way to keep on making money currently is to create new content packages and software and continue growing their users aka deliver a product that takes users away from Adobe.

My guess is on a new program to add to the suite.

The website being down doesn't make sense though... which might mean an addition of a subscription model... who knows.

Grow your user base at all costs and turn every user into a reoccurring revenue stream. Google once said something along the lines of not doing evil, and now when you complain to them, they serve you with an ad.

Not saying that Serif will do this, but I can see them add extra services, which may be AI powered, for a monthly sub (because computing isn't free).

It's pretty clear from Apple's iPad pro page that they'll be launching a iPad version of Publisher but the video strongly hints of one more thing...

They are not going to be switching to a subscription model, at least not now. They'd be driving people back to Adobe.

If Serif wants to grab Adobe by their balls they need to sit down with those smart people at Stable Diffusion for incorporating its functionality into Serif's product suite. You don't need advanced computing for it though it favours Nvidia's tensor cores. This will differentiate them in the marketplace, especially if it can be used to manipulate the content of the user's library.

A LUT tool will be warmly received.

I don't see them broaden their target market with video/audio editing tools.

Having a look at their social media, there are many people who are willing to pay for a new version 2.0. If that is the case, then v1.x will indeed be grandfathered. Many looking for a DAM.

Anyhow, people asking for why the website is down and why the app can't be downloaded has been responded to, and Serif says that they are busy updating their website and apps.

I see someone did ask for Stable Diffusion, and I had a lolz at some responses,

some people really do hate AI and image generation.

AI image generation is another valuable and very versatile tool to add to the collection. Pretty sure Serif (Affinity) will be doing "something" AI related considering the movement of AI image generators (Stable Diffusion, Dall-E2, Midjourney etc) and the inclusion of these capabilities into the likes of Photoshop (neural filters, Adobe Sensei) and Luminar.

If they integrated it directly into Photo etc. it would be pretty cool. At a very basic level imagine you've done some artwork and can then issue a command like: Remove all the circles on my canvas. Or make all the red circles green. Or add 6 o clock shadow to all the circles etc. Basically using the tech not just to generate images but to more intuitively manipulate your own works on the fly.

Some nice new additions, but still some outstanding things long requested by the community. Not going to dig into it, but they have a universal perpetual licensing scheme now which is nice which is more of the benefit for new users.

So... who is upgrading to V2 or are you going to stick it out with V1?
The bundle deal looks tempting. Also no more updates to V1 so will probably update Photo at minimum.
